I am married to wonderful man named RJ with three beautiful children: Allison (8), Cody (10), and Ashley (14). I see my children following in my footsteps in the battle of obesity.

I have been overweight since I was very young. Due to being sexually abused as a child by a family member by marriage, I learned to turn to food for comfort. So therefore, everytime something went wrong in my life, I turned to food. During highschool I maintained around 250 or so. After graduating in June of 88, I married my husband in October 88. We both took a second shift job at the same place so every night after work, we hit the drive-thru for a "hot ham n' cheese" and a hotdog all the way. We would go home and eat and then go to bed. I really packed on the weight and ballooned to 325 by 1991. In 1991 I got pregnant with my oldest daughter, and lucky for me lost weight during the whole pregnancy. When I went for my 6 week check up after having her I was down to 275. But being a new mother was a very emotional time for me and I turned to food. in 1994 I became pregnant again, but suffered a miscarriage 3 days after Christmas. It seemed no one around me understood what I was going through so, once again I turned to my comfort--Food! The weight I had lost slowly kept creeping back. I became pregnant with my son, and gained a little bit of weight but not too much. I was really sick after I had him so I lost weight, but of course didn't keep it off. When I got pregnant with my youngest daughter, I gained up to 340 pounds. After I had her I went on yet another diet and lost down to 280. But as with every other diet I have been on, it didn't last and I gained all my weight back and then some. Over the past 8 years I have yo yo dieted and been up and down always losing 20 only to gain 30 back.

In February 06 I decided I had enough and that WLS was the only way I was every going to be able to get control of my life and my weight. So I called Hickory Surgical Weightloss and got the information packet. I started the process. In April of 06 I went to the information class. I contacted my PCP and had him to write my recommendation letter. He told me that there was no way they would approve me....wrong. After jumping through all the hoops I was approved in July 06 and my surgery was scheduled for August 24, 2006. The surgery went well. I have recovered and returned to work and I am feeling great. I even went and bought a treadmill so I can exercise at home. I am so excited about what my new life has to offer. I love life now!
