8 Months Out 121 lbs Lost!!
Apr 18, 2008
Hello to all of you! I've heard from many of you requesting me to update my blog so you can see how I'm doing. Sorry to be such a slacker.
The past two months have been kinda slow on my weight loss. I've lost 11 more pounds. But I guess in the grand scheme of things, that's pretty good!! I didn't take any pictures this month to show the difference cause I didn't think it would show that much. But who knows! It might have shown more than I thought. Oh well, we'll just wait until next month.
One nice change in my life is that I have started to workout. Ricky and I joined the Katy Family YMCA. I'm able to go three nights a week after work and have been mainly walking the treadmill when I go. I walked 2 miles last night. That's something I would have never been able to do just 8 months ago!
One other great thing about going to the Y is the childcare!!! Katie and Dalton love it and have made lots of new friends there.
I also like that Ricky and I can be a good influence to our kids. Hopefully they'll see us working out and realize how important it is. Then they will have the desire to workout as they get older, too! Thus ending the cycle of obesity!
Thank you all for your love, support and prayers!
Enjoy the rest of Spring! You know those hot temperatures are around the corner!!
6 months postop and 110 lbs lost!!!
Feb 18, 2008
Yes, I know I'm not model thin. Who know how much weight I'll end up losing. But, man, this is the best I've EVER felt!
The down side of all of this...I hardly have any clothes left that fit me! I only have 3 shirts that I can wear to work that fit right. Everything else just hangs on me and looks messy because it's too big! But I've also promised myself that I'm not going to charge any new clothes. I need to get out and find some good sales!!! Oh, a friend from work gave me some of her hand-me-downs. She's lost over 160 lbs and is wearing a size 12 now. I would LOVE to wear that size! Don't get me wrong, though. I'm estatic that I'm the weight I am now!
Happy February, everyone! And thanks for your support!
5 Months Postop and 100 Lbs LOST!!!!!
Jan 12, 2008
I posted some new pictures that Ricky took of me today. I'm floored looking and comparing my preop and my 5 month postop pictures.
I changed my albums a little bit. I have one album with ALL my pictures in it. And another album with just my preop and current photos. It makes it easier to see the 100 lb difference!
Thank you to my family for their continued support and prayers. Thank you, Lord, for helping through everything! (See previous post regarding my trip to the ER!)
Is this a Happy New Year, or WHAT?!
My Trip To The Emergency Room
Jan 12, 2008
The pain lasted forever. It got worse and worse. Ricky helped me out to the van as I was yelling so loud in pain that we were worried that I would wake up the kids. The pain did not subside, it continued for what felt like forever. Ricky ended up calling an ambulance as he was worried that it would take too long in traffic to get to the ER in our van. I cannot tell you how bad the pain was. I can tell you that I'm not a weenie. But for that time I was really scared that I was going to die. I just knew that the pain that I had was not normal, and I truly thought my intestines had ruptured. The ambulance finally came at 6:30 and we were off to the ER.
I have never been in am ambulance before. And although I was still screaming in pain (and by that I mean screaming and crying at the same time), I still wanted to see what the inside of an ambulance looked like. I briefly opened my eyes and all I saw was a bright light and a white ceiling. I thought, "Oh, hell no! I'm not seeing a bright white light! And I am not going towards it!" (Flashbacks of the movie Poltergeist went through my mind..."Carol Ann, don't go to the light, Carol Ann...").
We arrived at the ER about 7am. I was poked and proded, needles stuck all in me with blood work and an IV. And about 7:45 I finally felt some relief. I'm not sure if it was relief from the pain medicine they gave me (Torodol), or what was wrong with me finally passed. But thank you, Lord, I felt relief. Then I went to have a Cat Scan of my abdomen (with and without contrast). About 30 minutes later the ER doctor came in and told me the good news and the bad news.
The good news...the pain I had was NOT gastric bypass-related. Well HALELUJAH! The bad news...the pain was from an ovarian cyst that had ruptured. Who knew!? I have never had problems with my ovaries, or anything "female-related" before. They gave me pain medicine and told me to followup with my OB/GYN. Then I got to go home and sleep for the rest of the day. (They pumped me full of LOTS of good medicine!)
The soonest my OB/GYN could get me in was Thursday the 10th at 1:15pm. I saw Dr. Pierce and told her what happened, then they performed an ultrasound to see what else might be going on. The results of my US showed that I still had fluid in my pelvic area, and I already had two more cysts forming. From the amount of fluid left, Dr. Pierce estimated that the size of the cyst was about 4" in diameter! Dang!! As for the other cysts, she explained that as women we develop cysts on our ovaries with every menstrual cycle. It's just that 99% of the time they diminish on their own and never cause a problem. She also said that just because this happened to me once does NOT mean that it will ever happen again. Man, I hope not. That was the WORST PAIN EVER! Dr. Pierce gave me a stronger dose of birth control pills with the intent of getting me higher doses of estrogen.
The fun part of the visit was hearing everyone say, "Oh my gosh! You've lost 110 lbs since the last time you were in here!"
16 Weeks Postop
Dec 02, 2007
My health is improving daily. I've been off my blood pressure medicine for months now. And the other day I received my cholesterol results. I went from 202 to 149!!!!!
I know that I made the right decision having this surgery. I want to be around my family for a very long time. The healthier I get, the longer I'll be around!
And my husband is doing great after his RNY, too. He's 4 weeks postop and has lost 55 lbs! I'm so proud of him.
What a blessing this has been for my family!
12 Weeks Postop - Down 71 lbs!!!!
Nov 05, 2007
My husband has is surgery last Thursday and has already lost 15 lbs. Man, the guys sure lose it quicker than we do! He's doing good. Still on the pain meds and resting a lot, but overall he's doing well.
Update on Husband's Surgery
Oct 20, 2007
Please pray for his continued healing.
As for me, I've had a good week. My weight has remained the same, so I'm sure I'll lose more this week. That's what I tend to do - I go in cycles. I lose a lot, then I don't lose anything.
Have a great weekend!
9 Weeks Postop
Oct 15, 2007
Yesterday I put on my "skinny" jeans before going to church. THEY WERE TOO BIG! The were falling off me and looked horrible! I can't believe it. They fit perfect the previous week. Man, I wish I knew how many inches I've lost. I think I'll call my surgeon's office and ask them to fax my original measurements to me. That way I can compare for myself.
Man, having this surgery is one of the best decisions I've ever made!
And my hubby has his scheduled for this Friday morning. I'm so excited for him!
We are going to be SO hot! LOL!!!!
8 Weeks Postop!!!
Oct 08, 2007
I had another postop last week. All my labs were good and I was released to a non-restricted diet! Woo Hoo! But even though I'm not restricted any longer, I'm still sticking with the basic stuff that works well for me - tuna, salmon, eggs, cheese, chicken, chicken salad, fat-free crackers, water and a small amount of apple juice.
Have a great week! I know I will!
