"As always, first impressions count! I didn't know what to think because when we met for the very first time, he was very 'up front and open' about why NOT to have this surgery. I thought to myself, 'He is NOT the surgeon for me.' He wanted me to know that it isn't the answer for everyone. It is a decission that I'd have to go home and really think about. (And Boy did I! I researched and learned as much as I possibly could learn on the internet & talked to people that had it done.) He wanted me to know all the PRO's & CON'S and shared w/ me how it changed people and even their 'loved' ones...
Over time, I have come to realize that Dr. Hanks was right on how he 'introduced' me to the world of Bariatric Surgery. I felt very comfortable and started understanding more and more why he talks to pre-ops the way he does. By the way, the Bariatric Seminars that they have bi-monthly are very educational and is 'a must' for all his Pre-ops.
The Staff at NESG (his office) has been so supportive. I always get a smile from everyone when I walk in and they always ask how I am doing. This isn't the only surgery that they specialize in BUT, he and the staff make me feel important and special. (Not just another name on the sign-in sheet.) The treatment I get there is wonderful. I always get my questions answered and I 'always' have a question for them! I think I drive them crazy at times!
I honestly have no problems w/ Dr. Hanks. If ever there was a time I questioned something, he would take his time and explain whatever was concerning me.
As far as what PRE-OP's should know about Dr. Hank's...JUST READ THIS! I also want to add that he is very confident w/ what he does otherwise he wouldn't be doing this. (That is his own words!)
It is very important (to him) that you know what 'every step' of this journey is going to be like. He explains 'everything' (all the risks) and more about what to expect post-op. As he stated, "You're mine for the next 5 years!" He wants to keep intouch and make sure you are doing the right things and that you stay on track.
The Mt. Clemens General Bariatric Support Group is wonderful. It is a very caring and loving group of people. People from all walks of life. We get together monthly and have 'Guest Speakers' every other month. (There is a 'Main Topic' ever month.) Our topics that are discussed are pre or post- op related. On a lighter side, we have group outings, an annual picnic (that the doctors come and COOK FOR US!...Always a GREAT TIME!!!), and of course our Christmas Party.
How would I rate Dr. Hanks overall? I am NOT alone when I say that I am blessed that I met this man. His faith and care for people shows in every way...every day! What I like most is the RESPECT has has for others. I have known many doctors im my life and I have felt like I'm at the bottom step looking up to them but w/ Dr. Hanks, we're both standing on the middle step! You'll see what I mean 'if' and 'when' you get the opportunity to meet him!"
