Hi all,
It is 6 days post surgery and I think I have turned a corner for healing. Don't get me wrong, I am still very tender and once in a while it is painful. I haven't had to use the liquid pain medication except at night and less and less. It is hard coming back to a hotel room to recoup cause there isn't a comfortable chair or couch for me to sleep in like there would be at home. Still my husband and I have managed. God Bless him. Neither of us knew how much he would have to contribute but initially the only thing I could do (thank goodness) was wipe myself (frankly). I have been dedicated to going for long walks and obviously am still on a clear liquid diet with protein drinks. I will be very happy to even get to the 3rd week post op diet of pureed foods. And the gas on both ends....well, it helps to take pepcid and am in hopes to see it taper off as have been told. I won't be doing anything to jeopardize that!
I am so looking forward to taking that Amtrak train home on the 30th this month.

Hi people....I have to tell you all that I had the worse trip back to Maine on the Amtrak train and I will never step foot on a train ever again!!!!! It was dirty, only a few of the bathrooms worked and were small than airplane bathrooms, it was very rocky especially at night when the train traveled faster, hence almost no sleep for fear of falling out of the bunk. Also, because of the incision, I had to attempt to sleep propped up most of the time. The meals were awful and some of the crew were not friendly or customer oriented. It took us 33 hours on the 1st leg of the trip from Flagstaff, Az to Chicago, Il and we had a 7 hour layover there. The second leg was 22 hours to Boston in coach instead of sleeper since we couldn't get a sleeper. When you are taken to the station, you have to walk all the way to the building even if you are 10 cars back. Horrible service. Everyone should have been offered rides to the building on the little carts.
OK, enough of that.
We finally made it home on Friday night and it took both my husband and I 2 days to start to feel normal again. Since I have been home, I have lost about another 4 lbs. Since I started this journey I have lost approx 20lbs. I am just getting my vitamins and meds down pack. Life time commitment of course. Not difficult, just have to do it. I am starting to write everything I eat down to keep better track of the protein intake. Once a day I am having a liquid protein drink. The most difficult thing right now is getting the H2O into me. Not up to 64oz yet but am working hard at it. Still have to sip so can't drink at a normal pace.
My confidence is tremendous, I know this is going to be the best decision I have made.
