1/2 tsp pepper
dash of cayenne
1/2 tsp powdered mustard
Sprinkle cheese and bacon into pastry lined pie pan. Beat remaining ingredients together and pour over cheese. Bake in preheated oven (375 degrees) for 45 min or until firm and browned. Cut into wedges and serve hot. Makes 6-8 servings.

It's only a week away!

I have not been good about posting regularly but I will try to update what has happened so far. They submitted my insurance and I heard back the next day! I was prepared to wait awhile so that was a wonderful surprise. I also received my consult date, surgery date and 2 wk f/u appt via my online OHSU chart. Once I got my surgery date it really hit home that this is going to happen!!
On September 22 I had 3 appts. at OHSU. First was my pre-surgery testing which included EKG, labs and giving a medical history to an NP. I then went to a pre-surgery class. There were about 12 people in the class. Three were having lap band, and the rest were having an RNY. I was the only DS in the room. We were given a folder of info and watched a power point presentation on planning for the time in the hospital and the types of foods/drinks to have after surgery. It was fairly general and did not describe the DS vitamin regimen thoroughly. Next was my consult with Dr. Deveney. I wrote out all of my questions as I knew I would forget once in the room. He seemed pleasant and answered all of my questions. He is very experienced and Im hoping he can do it lap. I have an umbilical hernia that has been repaired twice, the second time with mesh. He thought he would do basically half lap and then a kind of semi-circle around my belly button to fix the hernia. Hopefully I won't have any one incision that is extremely long. I was concerned he would try to talk me out of the DS but he didn't. He thought it was a "reasonable" surgery for me. I felt good about the appointment after I was finished. He did mention that I could be converted to an RNY if I had any extreme complications. It is nice to know that I have a surgeon who is competent and experienced enough to do the DS as well as revisions.
Now I'm one week away from surgery and have read and saved postings from this sight on a daily basis. Now that I'm so close I have gathered the vitamins and foods to get me through the first couple of weeks. Im honestly very anxious. I worry about having a major complication because I have 2 small children. I feel that this is absolutely the best thing I can do for my health and longer future with my family.
I look forward to shopping for clothes at a variety of stores other than Lane Bryant or Macy's Women's dept. I can't wait to ride a roller coaster, go parasailing, bike with my family, and most importantly...not standing out in a crowd, whether it's with the other mom's at my daughter's school, gymnastics class, girl scouts, at my work or anywhere. I don't want to be the biggest person in the room. I don't care if Im not skinny, I just want to be anonymous. I want to know the reason I didn't get a job after interviewing has nothing to do with my weight, and if I don't get it, at least then I would know!! I'm tired of avoiding seeing people from my past so they don't see me this way. I've turned down some good opportunities because of my shame about my weight.
I'm soo ready for this. I only pray I can be diligent and have the strength to do what I need to during "my window" and make the most of this tool and maximize my weight loss.

A lot has happened since I've posted here. My NP and dietician consults were July 18th, but because I had to wait a long time for those I went ahead and had my psych consult, CPX, mammogram, echocardiogram, sleep study and got set up for a colonoscopy. By the time I went to my consult at OHSU I could bring most of my test results with me. I think this really expedites the process! My consults with both the NP and dietician went great and I heard from them today that they are submitting to my insurance. I must say I am very excited but worried as well. I can't imagine any other surgery, I just hope all goes well and I have no major complications.

I have gone to 2 different information sessions at this point. I went to the local one, the surgeons perform RNY only. If that were my choice of surgery I would definitely use Dr. Rawlins. He is very professional with lots of experience and great statistics.
I also went to OHSU in Portland, its about an 8 hour drive from Spokane, but I've decided the DS is for me. It is going to take longer to get through all the hoops as they are a "high volume" facility. Dr. Deveney does the DS and is chief of surgery there as well. Im glad to see he has performed so many of these surgeries.
After submitting the necessary forms and medical records, I am awaiting(very patiently) for OHSU to call and set up my consult with the NP and nutritionist. I have been told it won't be until early May.
I also met with my PCP. I didn't have any idea how she would react. She was fine with it and had me set up full physical. That is not until June 5th and I know I will need more tests scheduled as well so this process is taking longer than I expected.
I now find myself daydreaming about life after weight loss. I especially can't wait to buy "normal" clothes. I work in healthcare and wear scrubs to work. I buy adorable clothes for my kids but avoid shopping for myself. I HATE IT.
I also look forward to enjoying soo many activities I've stopped doing because of my weight. I listed them in my goals. Of course, I'd like to be a "hottie" and have PS and be at normal weight, but if I get close and can't afford the PS, I will be soo happy to have an active life with my children and husband and really LIVE again.
