I am a 49-year old mother of two, happily married to the love of my life. Weight loss wasn't an issue until I became a mom and put my kids ahead of any priority that had to do with me. In high school and through my first years of marriage I was a whopping 125 pounds. After each pregnancy, I would lose some of the weight, but I guess my excuses for carrying around 25 years of baby-weight really was pathetic.
WLS never ever crossed my mind until I went to my pulmonary specialist for my sleep apnea and trouble breathing/heavy chest feeling with congestion all of the time. in July 2014 To my surprise, he recommended me for the surgery and explained that he just wanted me to talk to the surgeon.
I met with Dr. Dan six weeks later (first appointment available) who explained that if I continued down the path that I was on, I wouldn't live to be 70 which wasn't too far away. Considering I hadn't hit the BIG 50 and I wasn't even a grandma yet, I was even more in a state of shock.
Fortunately for me, I wasn't required to do Optifast and went through the pre-screening and pre-authorization requirements fairly fast.
Fast forward to January 20, 2015 - day of surgery. Scared to death, you better believe it. Greatful for both my pulmonary specialist, Dr. Makkhar, and my bariatric surgeon, Dr. Dan. I have literally placed my life in both of their hands and am looking forward to getting my life back - even better than it has been in a very, very long time.
