Michael Jay Nusbaum

"Origionally I was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Davis at Hackensack Medical Center and two weeks before my scheduled date, Dr. Davis left the practice. I guess there was an angel guiding my path because after meeting Nusbaum I wouldn't select anyone else. He is very thorough, he explains well, is honest, and takes extra steps to insure your safety and the best possible successful recovery. He has ordered several preliminary test to make sure I'm in good health like an Endoscopy, Stress test, Pulmonary function test, and Venous doppler, none of which were suggested at Dr. Davis's office. I just had a brief consultation and then a date for surgery and pre-admission testing that's it. Since I had already been approved through Dr. Davis's office all Dr. Nusbaum's office needed to do was contact my insurance company with the new date and Dr.'s name. He emphasized an aftercare program and will have me set up with a Nutritionist before I go home from the hospital, sounds very structured. He was very honest about the risk which is why he does some of the extra steps that other surgeons may not do and that is go in and hand stitch as an extra support for the staples to prevent leakage which, he says most think it's not necessary but he went on to explain it helps him sleep better knowing he took every possible pre-caution for my safety. I haven't had the surgery yet and when I do and all goes well, and even just on my interaction with him I would rate him a 95. Sugical competenence is far greater, even though bedside manner helps but if the doctor isn't competent and good at what he does, you may never need bedside manner, if you know what I mean."

Saint Barnabas Medical Center (COE)

"Overall I believe this is a very good hospital, they have excellent doctors and probably excellent care, maybe I was just unfortunate during my stay and one of few who may have had similiar experience, I mean my room mate even share discomfort and was displeased with the service on that unit and perhaps if I were on another unit with another group of staff it would have been more pleasurable. I still have high expectations and a lot of respect for St. Barnabas and if I ever had to be admitted there again I would hope they would change my mind about that last experience. Again it was only that Telemetry Unit that I had the bad experience an unfortunatley that was where I had to recover, but admitting staff were excellent, the O.R. staff were excellent and just about everyone else that I came in contact with. But once I made my concerns known on Telemetry then they did make an effort to do better."
