I'm approved!

Dec 08, 2012

Hi. I'm approved and finally have a surgery date. After going to a weight loss seminar at Advanced Surgeons, I decided to take the next step and schedule an appointment. I was approved the same day of my first visit. So far, the people there and the process has been great. They all made me feel really comfortable. I  live about 150 miles away from the office, but every time I call and have questions someone answers right then or calls me back right away. I have a three ring binder full of information on what to do & what to expect before and after surgery. The pre-op class was wonderful, too. It's a complete program. I purchased a band to exercise with when I saw the fitness trainer. The nutritionist answered all my questions regarding diet, and the mental health counselor was great, too! I feel that Dr. Touliatos really knows his stuffs! Part of the reason why I chose him is because he has lots of certifications and performs other gastric surgeries, not just weight loss surgeries. I'm so happy I chose the surgeon and office as a whole.

Introducing "Me"

Sep 15, 2009

Hi, everyone. I am a 28 year old single mother of a loving 13 year old son with ADD, who is my world. My weight is just one of the many challenges I have faced in my life. I don't regret any of them, though, because they have made me a stronger person. I am 5'4 and 309 pounds with diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, PCOS. I've tried several diets, and although some of them worked, I would gain the weight back. I am considering wight loss surgery because I want to be around a long time for my son, become healthy, and stop dealing with the issue of hard to find cute clothes that aren't expensive. I'm mostly considering the Vertical Sleeve, but would consider the Lap-Band. I am afraid of the Gastric Bypass because of so many risks. The problem is I only have Medicaid as insurance. I called Medicaid directly and they stated that they will pay for Gastric Bypass and the Lap-Band, but I can't find a doctor that will accept. I believe the sleeve would help me more, but financially I'm not able to make large payments at the moment. I'm just getting ready to graduate college this month with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Faulkner University, a private Christian college. There are few people hiring due to the economy, so finding a job is tough, especially in Alabama. Anyway,  I'm going to keep calling and not give up. When I feel like giving up, I listen to the song below that truly helps me because it's so inspirational.
