Nearly 3 years Out, Not at goal, still loosing
Jan 09, 2012
I havn't posted in a very long time, actually since before I had my sleeve done in April 2009. My sleeve was and still is successful, 3 years out I still have restriction and do not regret the surgery for one moment - even though I have not reached my goal, which for most people would have been achieveable in the first year. I have PCOS as well as being very hypothyroid (nearly 20 year history for both).
In the first year I only lost 20lbs, even though I was totally compliant with my diet. The second year I was less compliant with food but far more physically active and lost more weight that the first year. Yep very disappointing, but considering I've done the diet and 5 hours hard excercise per day for a year with limited success in the past, this wasn't really unexpected. Certainly not helped by tremendous family stress (due to a serious debilitating health condition that my hubby has), but as that stress remains, I am determined to do whatever it takes to reach my goal by the end of this year (65kgs/143lbs). Reality is that it will take at least that long:( Just having one problem PCOS or hypothyroid would be bad enough, but both is a double whammy:(
My highest known weight was 246lbs, I was sleeved at 224 and I am now 189lbs - which is still way to much for my just 5'1" frame:( My goal of 143lbs is still too much, but my Dr and I agreed that it was realistic.
So...I am back here for moral support and would love to hear from anyone who also has PCOS and thyroid problems, and maybe I can offer some support for those new on the sleeve journey. Although my weight loss has been excruiciatingly slow, it does continue and I know that I would have to eat nothing but junk for months on end to regain lots of weight (although for the first time over Christmas I regained nearly 4 pounds that I am struggling to loose - it was the first time I had alchohol - less than 1/2 a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream over three days).
I started the 5 day pouch test yesterday, and started an excercise regime last week, so far 5 x 2 hour sessions swimming laps, 2 x 45 minutes treadmill powerwalks (added to the farm work I already do daily). And drinking as much water as I can - aiming for 2 litres a day.
