The Journey Continues

Apr 16, 2007

My surgery is just shy of one month ago and the changes in me are unbelieveable.  My blood pressure is down enough it's questionable whether I need to continue with my medication (although I do until I see my primary care physician); I'm down 19 pounds and not only is it visible in my face but my clothes fit differently; I'm sleeping better and have so much more energy.  My biggest downfall...eating SLOWLY.  If I don't I get sick and lose my meal.  So I've resorted to keeping a timer near me to help me pace myself.  That works.  Haven't struggled much with food although there are times I want something chewy but I pass on it and distract myself.  I've worked too hard and come too far to blow it now.  Who would've believed a 1/4 cup of food would be filling?  Not me, but it is.

The journey continues....

I've got a surgery date!

Feb 09, 2007

I've been seeing doctor's since the beginning of October 2006 and with a lot of frustration with office staff members, I finally obtained all the necessary paperwork for insurance submission.  The submission was made on February 2 and approved on February 5th.  My SURGERY DATE IS MARCH 21st.  Today, St. Luke's called me and scheduled the pre-op screening for February 28th.  This is really happening!

The most frustration generated by this process was coordinating doctor's appointments for the various clearances I was required and getting the staff to submit the clearances and test results to Dr. Juarez's office.  I had to dog some of them to get them to comply in a reasonable timeframe.

But it done, and, although I was hoping to have the surgery in February, I'm glad I'm in the home stretch and will manage my life with a March 21st date.  My concern with the surgery date was being able to travel to California to see my first grandchild - due in late April.

My current emotions regarding this process - a bit afraid (it's major surgery, it's forever, I've failed so many times with diets), and numb (it's finally here, it's a reality and not just a plan) and excited about the future.
