Surgery Day and Post Op experiences
Nov 21, 2008
Well, like most things that involve me, there were more wrinkles in this plan than any one would have guessed. We made it to the cleveland clinic on time Monday Morning at 10:15 ( fifteen minutes to spare). The nurse took me back to do the pre-op checklist ( iv, paperwork and all that) and we were done with that by 11:30 ish - and then we waited. I guess the suregery was not scheduled to happen until 3:30 that day , which we would have loved to know because I thought the surgery was to happen in the am, and then I would be released and be home by my kids' bedtime. So we waited, waited and then waited some more.
We went into surgery at the scheduled time and I came out around 7:30pm, we decided that it was too late to make the 3 hour drive home so I was taken to a room for the night, which ended up being the best thing. Coming out of the surgery the doctor said that they were able to reduce the stomache more thanthey realized and that it looked amazing. All through that night and into the morning, I was throwing up something fierce. Anytime I would stand up it would followed with a round of throwing up and the same cycle happenend when I would try to drink anything, so they kept me a second night to see if the problem would correct itself.
This brings us to Wednesday. I was still not getting better so the doctor decided to go back in and look at the stomache and see what was happening. That afternoon they opened me up again. When they got into my stomache they saw that my stomache swollen completely shut do to all the work that happenend in there, so they took out the sutures and retied them this time watching the stomache for signs of swelling. Again, the stomache swelled and they had to take the sutures out a third time and allow for the swelling before resututing. Finally after that third time I was able to be closed up and I had one more night of observation before they would release me. THursday afternoon after holding down 4 0z of apple juice I was able to go home.
Overall I feel ok, I am really sore and bruised from the surgeries but I am happy to be at home and the drugs that came home with me.

The Night before Surgery
Nov 16, 2008
After multiple delays I am finally at the night before. The liquid diet was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be - after the first two days I was really feeling pretty good. Then yesterday came and the clear-liquid diet with it and the bowel prep. The bowel prep was not bad outside of the nausea that I had for a couple of hours. I have come to conclude that clear fluid diet is hell or at least as close to it that I have been thus far. Today I sat though Thanksgiving at my Grandma's house and managed to sit and just watch others eat. I am very ready. I would never last as an anorexic that is for sure. My family has all sent me with the best of wishes and lots of prayers, so I know that I have the support I need to make this lifestyle change last.
First Day Pre-OP liquid diet
Oct 23, 2008
So, I went to my pre-op appointment yesterday -ALL DAY - and I was told that I am to start the liquid pre-op diet. I am ok with that though, it just means I am getting closer to my surgery date - thank goodness. Getting used to liquid meals is going to be interesting. Already, it is lunch time, I think my stomache is not sure what I am doing with it. I am sure that I will adjust and be glad about this after surgery. So, back to my chicken-less, noodle-less chicken noodle soup ( sounds better than broth )
