"Every experience from when I first got admitted, the surgery, the recovery and up to when I was taken to my room was fantastic. Every staff member made me feel comfortable and understood that I was nervous. If I had any questions they answered them honestlly. They were very respectful and made sure that I was comfortable at all times. However, when I was moved to my room, I had some difficulties getting my ice chips on the hour. Hydration is extremely important and I was supposed to have 2 ounces of ice chips every hour. Sometimes it would be over two hours before a nurse would bring me some. My family had to track down nurses a number of times to get their attention. I think part of the "problem" was that there probably isn't a lot of training on handling bariatric patients. I had one CNA that was supposed to take me walking and she didnt help me at all to get out of bed. I ended up hurting myself unnecessarily. I later learned that she was supposed to teach me how to get out of bed without straining my stomach. All in all, it was an OK visit. Everyone there was very nice and courteous, but just seemed like they were too busy sometimes to meet my needs. Perhaps other programs have just a few specifically trained nurses assigned to each patient. That would have been better for me."
