I started battling my weight in 1995, my early twenties. My career with the military ended due to weight gain, and the inability to lose it. I suffered from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and was told by specialist that I was going through menopause at twenty-two. What a blow since all I ever wanted was to have a large family. The weight gain was blamed on PCOS and menopause.
In 2002, during a breast reduction a freak accident occurred. I substained 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the areola. The worst part was the infection and depression. I was out of work for about four months. I really packed on some weight during that.
In 2003, I started to see an Endocronologist. Here I am about 100 pounds over weight now, which I gained within a year. My diagnosis was metabolic x syndrome (I produce to much insulin). I felt at this time I needed something to help me gain control of my life, and my physician agreed.
