I woke up obese today
Aug 03, 2009
I knew I had been gaining weight constantly for months, even years since I had my first spinal surgery in 2006. At the time of the surgery I was 165lbs, and at 5'8" I was at a healthy weight. This morning I had a hard time fitting into pants that fit me 2 weeks before so I decided to get on the dreaded scale only to realize that I was now a whopping 249lbs. Im now a size 18-20, and 6 months ago at my wedding I was a 12-14. That is a massive weight gain in such a short amount of time.
I've been sick, mentally and physically. I have major depressive disorder and a spinal fusion which leaves me unable to do a lot of the recommended workouts. I can ride a recumbant bike, but that is about it. Getting the motivation to do that is far and few in between, my knees and hips hurt from riding. Its just not like it used to be when I was a 3 sport athelete. I got hurt and now Im on disability and obese.
I've got to do something because the weight is effecting my back in an undesireable way. I'm in pain all the time, I have a strange gait to my walk, if I can walk at all. I used to be able to see my feet when I looked down and now they have disappeared. It's time to make a change.
I am now a member of OH.com because I am interested in bariatric surgery, specifically lap band. I am currently trying to collect letters of recommendation for the surgery from my doctors so that I am more likely to be accepted as a patient.
I have a 38 BMI which is borderline for the surgery, but I'm hoping with my health problems it will boost my chances, hence me collecting the letters. Anyone with any advice for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
