Hi All, It's Sunday morning, 3 days after my surgery and all is going well. I'd like to share my experience with those of you who are about to undergo lapband. I had surgery Thursday morning around 7:30. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am and had to answer a couple of questions regarding medical history, seems like these are generally repetitive questions each time. Anyway, after this they took me in to start prepping for surgery. Changed into their lovely gown, put on the surgery cap for my hair. They started with doing all the vitals, temp, hbp. I had taken a glucose reading earlier and it was at 69. They said that was terrific and I probably wouldn't need to be taking any of my meds after surgery but that would be up to the doctor. The RN supe came in and prepped me for the IV, he was really nice and I barely felt anything, they proceeded to give me antibiotics and also a injection that would prevent blood clots which was injected in my tummy, no pain just a little sting. A little after 7am, they came to roll me to the surgery room, by this time I had already spoken to the anesthesiologist and her asst. and they asked a few questions and then gave me something to relax me. All I remember is getting wheeled in to the surgery room, looking at the time that read about 7:15 and then waking up in recovery and the nurse saying wake up it's all over. As I was waking up, I felt groggy, like something hit you in the chest and for just a few seconds a feeling of not being able to breath, which was probably me adjusting to the soreness from the tube they placed down in my throat. The feeling only lasted a couple of minutes until I could keep my eyes open. After that they rolled me into a private room, which is really nice, you don't have to listen to anyone else's snoring, etc... I was in my room by 10:30, so basically it was a total of 3 hours from when they started to recovery. My husband said that Dr. Marquez came out around 9:oo or so and said everything had gone well and I should recuperite very quickly. She stated I was a healthy person and she'd had no complications. I did spend the night at the hospital, which I'll always remember because we had a big storm that night and my husband and I looked out the window and got a spectacular lightning show along with the rain just pouring down. Anyway to make a long story short, I had no problems with the liquid diet, taking my vitamin, and pain meds, having a little problem with constipation, gas, lots of gas from the gas they pump into your stomach to help lift your organs. It started that same night and that first one is such a relief. Got home Friday noon and rested all day, did a little walking around the house, did as much for myself as possible. I can setup my own meals, the only difficulty is bending if I drop something. Saturday, I was feeling a little better, my sister and her dtr came by to pick me up, we were taking my niece to pick out a prom dress at the bridal stores, so I just sat while they shopped and tried on dresses. It was good exercise however I was really tired by the time I got home. It's Sunday morning, still having probs with constipation, still gassy, and I want to burp so bad but nothing. It's really strange, when ever I drink something, you can feel it going down and you hear a lot of grumblings going on in your intestines. Not sure what that is because I'm not hungry, fluids fill me up really quick. All in all, it has been much easier than I expected. I lost about 11 pds before the surgery and then got on the scale yesterday morning and had gained about 4.5 lbs which is nothing but water so I'm not worried in the least. Good luck to all of you getting ready to join the losing side and hope that your experience is a good one. I know mine has been. Take Care.

Finally the date has arrived. Received a surprise call from Dr. Marquez's office yesterday. My surgery date was scheduled for next Thursday, May 4th. I saw her today and she went over all my questions, issued my prescriptions for after surgery. I am on Actos and Metformin for diabetes, the Actos should be no problem but the Metformin will need to be crushed. I've seen some postings from several of you that it's pretty gross. Any one have any suggestions on mixing it with anything? Anyway, I am now anxious and ready. My preop diet is going well so far. All my test results ie labwork, chest x-ray, ekg, echcard, came back fine. She doesn't foresee any problems but strongly warned me to stick to my preop diet so that my liver shrinks. If they find it too large, the surgery will be postponed. I surely don't want that to happen after waiting this long for this procedure. Any feedback on the first couple of days would be appreciated.
