JAN 10, 2010 - 9 months post op

Jan 10, 2010

ok, so i am now 9 months post op and i am down 107 lbs!   i am down to 220 from 327.  i am officially back to the weight i was when my husband and i first met.  I still wanna loose another 40-50 pounds, and i still havent kicked the exercise regimen into high gear yet! I work really weird hours and have a crazy schedule w/the kids and am not good at juggling it all and trying to figure out how to fit the exercising into my daily life/routine.  I can eat almost anything and tolerate some sugar, but not a lot.  I dont crave the sugar, but i do tolerate it should i decide to have something "sweet"  i have NOT attempted to eat ice cream (other than skinny cow popsicles/ice cream) and seem to tolerate those well.  I have only gotten sick (puking) ONE TIME and that was good enough for me.  i WILL  NOT do that again.  i only got sick because i ate too fast...i put off eating way to long and ate too fast so i paid for it in the end.  no sooner than i was done eating, i was right in the bathroom puking it back up.

I have encountered one problem related to having my gb surgery, and didnt know it until this last visit for sure.  My eustachian tubes in my ears are staying open.  The ent and now my surgeon say it is because of all the weight i have lost and now there is no fat around my eustachian tubes to help keep them closed.  so, i have been seeing my ent for a couple months now and he currently has me on iodine to try and create congestion to help get them to "close"  The reason this is a problem is because i can "hear myself talk" when they are too open.  This is only suppose to happen when you yawn, or "pop" your ears and mine decide to do it whenever they darn well feel like it!  So, the ent says that if he cant get them to close on their own, then he will have to put tubes in my ears.  Now wait a cotton pea picking minute...THIS WAS  NOT PART OF THE DEAL w/my gb!  lol.  I asked my surgeon if he had heard of this and he said yes, ONE other time!  gooooo figure!  just my luck.  lol  oh well.  I DO NOT regret my decision to have the gb surgery!

I can eat about a cup of food at a time now.  My surgeon says all my levels are really good.  No signs of protein defficiency, etc.  Calcium levels are good.  Told me to keep up the good work.  So, all in all i am extremely happy w/my results given the "ear problem"  and i cant wait to get my husbands gb under way.

ok, so it has been a really long time since i last updated my profile.  sorry i have not kept up.  well.  i am six months out and i am down 91 lbs!  awesome!  i couldnt tell you how good i feel!  i still have aches and pains and still have a long ways to go.  my journey has been a wonderful one!  i follow what im suppose to do and i always choose my protein first over anything when eating.   i have not had any issues relating to my surgery.  all has been going well.  i go back to see my surgeon in november.  i recently seen some co workers that i had not seen in a very long time and they were really shocked to see me.  they said they didnt recognize me and thought i was someone else!!!  AWESOME!!!  its so hard for me to see the differences in ME until i put on some clothes and they about fall to the ground!  that is a great feeling!  well, on the other hand, now my husband has decided to go through with haveing the GB surgery!  im so proud of him!  i cant wait for him to experience the things i have on my journey.  i think the hardest part for me thus far has been in the beginning when i had to do pureed food!!! ugh....COULDNT DO IT......just chewed, chewed and chewed more BEFORE SWALLOWING..LOL.  i havent taken any measurements.  i am really bad about that part of.  i will try to begin taking my measurements.  i noticed the other day that my bmi is down to 32 from 55!  wow!!!!   i still have a long ways to go.  i still wanna loose another 60 pounds by april.   my husband recently bought me the biggest looser dvd for my wii fit, so im gonna give that a try hopefully today.  well, its been nice updating, hope to hear from you all soon and hope everyone is doing well!

May 28, 2009

ok, so here i am out about a month and a half and i am down 38 pounds.  i thought i would have been down more than that at this point considering i had the rny!  everyone i have talked to says "it will just fall off".  well i dont feel like it is "falling off".  should i be happy with the 38 pounds since april 6th?  i try so hard to get all 64 oz of water in, but i am not always successful.  i think im doing pretty good at getting my protein in, though.  this is a really big struggle trying to get all of the things in that i need to.  water, food, vitamins, medicines, ugh.  i went to see my family dr the other day and told him that i was concerned about retaining fluid since my ankles are always swollen etc and wondered if that may be why im not loosing more than i have.  he says that i truly may not be getting in enough fluids since i "talk a lot at work"! he says that a person looses water by talking!  go figure!  who would have thunk that!?!  wow!!!  so, here i sit, OBSESSED with my scale and disappointed that i have not lost more than i have.  I am signing up for a gym membership through my employer.  i have my orientation for that on june 1st.  however, im not sure how many times a week i will be able to get there once i return to school (june 29th - 4 days a week).  so much on my plate and not sure how to juggle it all.  if anyone out there has got any ideas or suggestions for me, PLEASE......i welcome them!
thanks!

12 days post-op

Apr 18, 2009

ok, so i am 12 days out since surgery.  im doing pretty good for the most part.  i am down 22 pounds! awesome!  i am soooo excited.  Im moving onto pureed foods now, but not quite sure what those things consist of.  Can anyone give me some ideas, please? ok, I had a REALLY bad day the other day.  My family ordered a pizza for dinner and I soooo wanted a piece.  It took everything I had to NOT get one, but i have to say i am very proud of myself as I DID NOT EAT ANY! It was extremely painful for me and I wanted that pizza so bad I could have cried.  Ok, so I am getting back more energy day by day.  I still get tired relatively easy though, and boy does it ever hurt so BAD when i sneeze!  holy cow!

ok, so if anyone has any ideas for pureed stuff, PLEASE let me know!  I am in desperate need of ideas!  thanks!

5 days post op update

Apr 11, 2009

ok, so i had surgery on monday april 6th.  today is saturday april 11th.  the hardest thing i have found for me thus far is fixing dinner for my family and not being able to "join" them.  I finally got my first hunger pain today, but  fought through that.  i almost picked up a piece of meat that i fixed the family for dinner, but i fought that off too.  My husband cut up a watermelon last night and that was tough also.  The smell of it is what got to me.  I love watermelon.  So, here I am five days post op and im doing pretty good.  I am struggling getting all my medicines in that they want me to AND eat!  geesh.  but i did better today.  i started by trying to eat first, wait an hour, take my medicine, then drink fluids until close to next meal time.  then repeat the process over.  this seems to be working for me (today) ;-)  Im not sure what to expect from this drain tube.  how long is that thing suppose to continue to drain stuff from you?  One of the other hardest things I have found is lying flat in bed.  It isnt bad, once i can get comfortable.  by morning though, im miserable and in a LOT of pain!  I have been able to do more today....more walking around the house, etc.  Finally was able to fix breakfast and dinner for the family.  although when i was done i was DONE.  i had to go sit down.  haha.  but after a brief rest i could get back up and do a little more.  im trying not to push things though.  even though i am doing those things, i am NOT disobeying dr's orders!  i do not want a set back, so i do things slowly.  I did manage to bring out the scales yesterday and according to the scales i have lost 11 pounds since surgery?!  wow!!!  can this really be?  Well, i will write more later.  good nite.

can anyone help me?

Mar 14, 2009

ok, so i go the letter from my surgeons office with the date and times of my preadmission testing, etc.  however, there is no mention in there about doing a liquid diet before my surger.  From everything and everyone i have talked to they have told me that you will be required to go through a liquid diet two weeks before my surgery date.  my preadmission date is march 24th, and my surgery is april 6th.  so, does anyone know if everybody does in fact have to go through a liquid diet, or is it strictly up to your surgeon?  maybe this is something they will go over when i go for all my preadmission testing?  according to my letter, i should plan on spending the majority of the day and early afternoon at the hosptial.  soooooooo INPUT please!
