MARCH 2007

Mar 10, 2007

**March 10, 2007:  I finally have lost over the 100 pound mark!!  I was down to this mark back in December 2006 but I have been fortunate to find a member that wa able to make me a century club card...thank you dark eyes!

I went to Portland at the beginning of this month for my 9 month check up and I weighed in at 198 pounds....today I am at 196.  I can't remember when I was ever this small...I am only 40 pounds more than my 13 y/o son.  I have also bought a pair of misses size 12 jeans and they actually fit..OMG!  The surgeon said my labs look good and I know I have been feeling great.  I have been trying to exercise everyday with running every other day.

I still haven't had the hungry feeling come back.  Actually I still have to fight myself to eat to get my protein in each day.  I have to keep myself on track with my eating schedule of every 3 - 3 1/2 hours.

So to sum it all up I am officially down 127 pounds and only 46 pounds away from my goal of 150.

NOVEMBER 2006:

Nov 03, 2006

**November 4:  I weighed myself today and I was at 223.5 pounds.  I am SOOOO excited because I am only a half a pound away from the century mark!  I have been doing good with taking my vitamins and I still use a protein supplement along with working out on the toal gym, gazelle and treadmill.  I haven't noticed much hair loss or maybe it is just I had a lot of hair to begin with.  Over the last couple of weeks I have received more compliments on how I look...from men and women.  Weird...cuz I look at myself and still see the exact same person that still needs to lose a bunch of weight.  My parents live in Alabama (I'm in Idaho) and I want to try to go and see them on Christmas break so I have set a goal of being down to 200 pounds by Christmas.  I won't be upset if I don't make it cause I am not even sure I will be able to afford to get down to see them with the increase in airfare...if not I want to see them early next year...maybe around spring break time.

Good Weight Loss!

Aug 31, 2006

**October 27, 2006:  I am down to 227 pounds today.  I went a month or so where I had no weight loss...guess this is called a plateau.  I have come to a point where I m doing good taking my vitamins and keeping up on my protein.  I am working out pretty much each day by either doing the total gym, the gazelle or treadmill.  I can now fit into a size 18 jeans...even a size 16 jeans in Levis.  I can't ever remember when I could do that!

**September 1, 2006: I am down another 5 pounds this morning to 245 (YYYYEEEESSSSSSSS)!!!!! I can hardly remember when I was at this weight...I think it was back in 1998 and that was due to being on diet medication and this was the point at about when the medication stopped working and my weight went back up plus more. My husband and son can now get their arms around me for a hug now. My husband says that it feels like a different person when we are....well you know :) I am still having a hard time with the vitamins and that is a challenge each day. I really have to find a better way to get them all in everyday.

**September 11, 2006: I am down to 242 pounds today. I really haven't been exercising at all this week. I only went swimming one day. I need to get back on track with my exercise and get this weight off. This last weekend I bought some Nectar Protein at the Vitamin Shoppe (Twisted Cherry) and I just couldn't stand it. It tasted like you were sucking on plastic. I plan on returning that this weekend and trading for some of the Isopure Zero Carb 40g bottled protein.

Post op life continues

Aug 03, 2006

**August 4, 2006: It has been about three weeks since I updated my profile on OH. I weighed myself today and I was 262 so that makes a loss of 37 pounds since surgery. This week was a real challenge for me. I was gone out of town on business for three days. I didn't realize how hard it was to eat when you are out of town and have to eat out at all your meals. I eanded up going to the deli and getting some sliced turkey and cheese and making some roll ups for dinner each night. I ate for three days on about $15.00 for the total time...that's a first! When I was out of town I even exercised and did laps in the pool at the hotel. I am feeling really good the last couple of weeks. There is still one priority problem I have to deal with...I have to find some sort of hobby to keep me busy when I am at home on the weekends and in the evenings. When my husband and my son are both gone I am just so bored and I keep going to the fridge and looking for food. I don't eat nothing but I make many trips back and forth to the kitchen. I have never had the time or the energy in the past to have a hobby but now I need to find something I can get into. I am thinking about attending a karate class I heard about in my town. I am a little nervous cause of how I look and I am just sure that everyone else will be mega skinny there...just me being self conscious. I will keep you updated on what I find out about the class.

**August 11, 2006: Today's weight was 258...that's down 4 pounds in the last week. I have been feeling good but having a hard time with all the vitamins. Some of the pills are really big and hurt my throat when I swallow them. I have tried crushing the calcium but that is so gross. I guess I am left to trying the chewable Citracal. The total calories I will be eating with the calcium will be 140 but that means I will have to bump up my exercise to accomodate the increase. I know I have to take the vitamins so I don't see any other choice. I am still having a hard time getting in all my protein especially when most things don't taste very good. Also, I have been having this feeling that I am never hungry and it is a struggle to remember to eat. I am still doing water aerobics but I have been laxed on the treadmill and not doing what I should be doing. But that now needs to stop! I need to get back on track with my exercise, take my vitamins and eat all my protein each day. My goal for the coming week is to follow the above plan each day and see how that goes.

**August 18, 2006: Weight today is 253...down 5 pounds since last week.

**August 25, 2006: Weight today is 250..down another 3 pounds since last week. I am little over two months post op and from the chart of weight loss I found on OH I am pretty much on track. I know that if I can start back on my exercise after I get done moving I should have a good weight loss. I haven't been feeling very hungry this week so it has been a chore to get my protein in. I know I haven't got it rom my regular food so I have been eating a half of a protein bar for each of my snacks.

My post op life begins

Jul 06, 2006

**July 7, 2006: Today is my 2 week post op date. My weight is 275.5 pounds...that's a loss of 22.5 pounds!! This is the lowest weight I have been for about 7 years. I am now able to start my phase 2 (puree stage) part of the eating plan. I am so sick of drinking the majority of my protein in shakes. I know I still have to drink some but now I can also get protein from things like eggs, tofu, chicken and fish. I never thought I would see the day when I would take tofu over shakes.

**July 14, 2006: My weight today was 271.5...down a total of 26.5 pounds since surgery! I have been trying to do water aerobics morning and evening and then walking on the treadmill 2 miles a day. I have my first follow up on Monday the 17th with Dr. Jan and I will get to start more vitamins from what I hear. I will keep you posted.

The insurance wait begins

Jun 04, 2006

** June 5, 2006: I got word from the surgeon's office that they just faxed in my paperwork to BCBS.

** June 7, 2006: I called BCBS to check on my submitted paperwork and they told me that I hadn't lost the 5% required weight. I told them I have lost 30 pounds but they wouldn't accept the 20 pounds of weight loss from November of last year. My 5% had to be from December 2005 to current. So I finally searched and called all the physicians that I have gone to in the last six months and I finally found one of the Physician's Primary Care (Doc in the Box) places that I had to go to for Streph Throat and my weight from them would work. So that new paper got submitted to BCBS.

** June 8, 2006: I got the call from Kammie at Dr. Jan's office that I had been approved for surgery and my date of June 23rd was a go...I was so excited!!!!! I had to call the insurance myself to be sure that it was correct and they also said I was approved. So I am now 2 weeks out from having surgery and getting more and more nervous but I know this is the right decision for me.

**June 16, 2006: I am a week out from going to Portland for surgery and I am getting pretty nervous. It has been kinda weird...I had a call from my brother that I haven't talked to in around 15 years. He lives near Portland and he wanted to know which hospital I was going to be in so he could come and visit me while I am there. It will be nice to finally see him but since he is much older than me we have never been very close. I should be happy but the whole thing is just weird and unusual.

**June 27, 2006: I had my surgery on Friday the 23rd. I weighed in at 299....even after the three day liquid diet. The surgery went great! I couldn't have anything to drink until Saturday after my swallow test but that went good and I didn't have any leaks. I was released to go home on Sunday the 25th. Each day I am feeling better and better. I haven't taken a pain pill since Sunday evening. Today I even got on the treadmill and went half a mile....it's a start. I am so excited to start on this new way of life and start feeling better than ever before. I have to say that it is really hard to get all the protein and water down...seems like you are drinking all the time but I don't feel hungry at all. As the days pass I will keep posting on any changes that happen.

My weigh in

May 08, 2006

** May 9, 2006: I weighted in at my PCP and I am down to 295 pounds...that's a 4 pound loss with about 11 more to go.

** May 10, 2006: I received a call from the obesity clinic today and they said my file has been sent over to the surgeon's office. I didn't waste any time waiting for them to call me ...I got on the phone and was able to get a consultation with the surgeon on May 22, 2006. One step closer!!

** May 23, 2006: I had my consultation with Dr. Jay Jan yesterday. He is a very nice guy and made me feel really at ease. He answered all the questions I had and went over the previous forms that I signed. I weighed in at 292 pounds...down 3 more pounds. So now my paperwork is off to the insurance to see if I get approved or not. The insurance wanted to see a 5% weight loss but I have lost a total of 30 pounds if you include what I lost going to the dietician before I started this program. The good news is that I have lost and I haven't done the whole yo-yo weight loss thing. The weight might be slow coming off but I haven't gained. Now I am just anxiously waiting to hear from the insurance.

My testing

Apr 27, 2006

** April 28, 2006: I got back from Portland yestaerday after having my 2 days of testing. I was really suprised about how at ease I was with the psych test after I got going on it. The appointments with the nurse, dietician, physical therapist and psychologist went really well. When I weighted in I was down to 299 pounds and that is a 20 pound drop from 5 months ago...I was very excited because my insurance wants a 5% or more weight loss before they will approve surgery. I was also thinking the clinic would have a whole list of things for me to work on before I could go any futher in the process but the only things I needed to work on was getting fit for a CPAP machine (have to have it with me for surgery) and to continue to walk 2 miles per day to burn an extra 400 calories a day. Now my next step is to wait for all this paperwork to get dictated and sent to the surgeon's office then they will call me to set up a consultation. I am so excited...I am getting closer and closer to having the actual surgery!!!!!

My seminar...part 2

Mar 12, 2006

** March 13, 2006: I attended the seminar on March 9, 2006 and it was pretty much all the same information I have alredy researched. I filled out my application and turned it in that day. Now I am just waiting for a call from the Obesity Clinic to set up additional appointments for my 2 day evaluation.

** March 15, 2006: I got word from the Obesity Clinic that I am scheduled for my 2 day evaluation/testing with the Psych, Dietician, and Physical Therapist on April 26 and 27, 2006. So before that time I have to get an EKG, lab work, sleep test and see if I can get my chart notes from the dietician....wish me luck!!
