"I had my surgical consult with Dr. Robert Keating on June 4, 2003. I found Dr. Keating to be very understanding and compassionate. He was impressed with the amount of homework I had done prior to the appointment. (I submitted what he called a 5 page "essay" about my health and personal background, my motivation for the surgery, and my expectations. He said he wished all his patients would do that as it demonstrated I knew what I was getting into.) The office staff was very helpful. Again the research I had done proved to be beneficial. I think everyone had a genuine respect for that and knew I was not in there just looking for a "quick fix." At this point I would have to say there is nothing I didn't like about Dr. Keating. He was very thorough in his explanations and answered all my questions to my satisfaction. It did not feel like he was rushing me. The only thing I feel he lacked was a good understanding of the aftercare and anesthesia. He made numerous referals to dietician and anesthesiologist recommendations when I asked questions about those issues. I feel both his bedside manner and surgical competence are good.He was very knowledgable in talking about the procedures and risks. Also the fact that he himself has lost over 100 # in the past two years gives him the edge in dealing with his bariatric patients.
