I can't believe how well things have gone. I expected to be nervous the morning of the surgery but only felt calm and excited (now that's an oxymoron). Came out of surgery in the step down unit; needed little extra TLC because I can no longer use CPAP and blood sugars were a little high. Friends dropped in and there was a small party in my room later in the afternoon where they could make fun of me being a LOT loopy from the morphine and anesthetic. Dr. Fearing came in and said she could not believe she had just done surgery on me that morning. Walked a couple of times and then there waas no stopping me. Pain was minimal and was ready to pull out my own drain by the time I got to the doctor's office. Saw Jennifer, dietician, what a sweetie, and then Amy. I was speechless when we figured out I had lost 12 pounds in the week since surgery; it is no easy feat to render me speechless. I guess all that meditation, positive thinking, and hard work to get here has paid off.

I have continued to fight the insurance company from the first day of this year (2007). They "lost " my paperwork 6 times. I have great doctors in Internal Medicine and  Bariatric Surgery and  their office staff is THE best. Finally, a little over a week ago, I was approved and a date for the surgery was set (August 15). 

The advice I would give those of you still battling the insurance companies includes:
- Keep great records of who you talked, faxed, or mailed something to;
- Keep a record of everything you eat, the exercise you do, and any weight you lose;
- Find someone in the insurance company you can continue to call and only talk to that person;
- Read every letter from the insurance company word by word fully through several times; and
- Don't give up.

It took me two years but it is finally happening and I could not be more excited and happy.
