Over the past 30 years I have slowly lost and gained weight, always adding 5-10 lbs here and there until I weighed 268 at my highest weight. I have hovered around 255 the last year. I have never lost over 20lbs at a time, even when I was younger. My body seems to like to hold on to what it has! I am like most of you. I have tried, weight watchers (several times), gyms, doctor approved diet pills, diet counselor and about 1000 different diets.  The last year I have tried lap swimming to loose weight …… Firmed up a bit but didn’t loose a pound! I eat healthy but I obviously eat way too much. I like to think I have sluggish metabolism not sure how true that is?
My family doctor has been telling me for a long time, if I could loose the weight I could probably go off all of my medications. I never really considered bariatric surgery because my doctor was always against it. Well, the last time I went for my physical she said a couple of her other patients had talked her into bariatric surgery and they were doing beautifully. She told me she thought I would be a good candidate. I knew nothing else was working for me so I did a lot of reading about it, checked with our insurance and went to the educational seminar, at Duke Hospital . I have my first appointment Jan. 2 ’08 to be evaluated for the surgery. My big unanswered question is; will I have the RNY or will they want me to have the lap band surgery instead?  I had colon cancer 5 years ago.  (Lost 20lbs with chemotherapy …gained it all back!) But I have scars from that surgery and a hernia repair. plus I have had the descending colon already removed. I have a big question as to whether all of this will effect having the RNYsurgery which I prefer and whether I will have to have the surgery open because of the scaring? My family doctor didn’t know the answers. I really don’t like waiting to know things…J but from reading a lot of other profiles, waiting is a BIG part of all this!

I would love to get down to my ideal weight of 125. incomprehensible!  The last time I weighted that was when I married my wonderful husband, in 1978. But I’m really not doing this to be 125lbs again, even though it is a great side effect!..LOL.... I just want to feel better, live longer and do all the things I can’t do now because of my health and bulk.
