4 month update
Jun 15, 2009
Well, I'm only about 20-30 lbs from my goal. As expected the weight loss has slowed down. I'm at 204 and was as low as 202 last week. I've been working out like crazy and I'm feeling great. I know that I'm gaining muscle mass since my cloths continue to get looser.
I'm down to a large shirt and 36 pants. This makes shopping a lot easier, however, I'm going to wait until I'm at my goal before I go nuts on a new wardrobe. I'm really looking forward to breaking 200lbs, but realize that it's going to be a slow go from here until I reach my goal of 175-185. I'm very happy with my RNY to this point, no serious side affects.

2 month update

Well it's been a great first couple of months. I seem to stall and then start losing again which seems to be the norm form most folks. I'm down 35 lbs and down to 220lbs. Since I lost 40lbs pre-op, I only need to lose another 40lbs to reach my goal!
I've continued to exercise vigorously 5-6 days per week and usually do walking or light exercise on my off days. I have only my skinny jeans and a few shirts that still fit me and I'm looking forward to a new summer wardrobe, but want to get as close to my goal as possible. Overall I'm very happy with my RNY so far.

Stall from hell

I lost about 17 lbs in the 2 weeks after surgery. Week 3 I started to do some more vigorous exercise at the gym and moved on to ground meats and soft food. I'm following the Nut recommendations, however, the scale has stopped moving. I know it's normal for the body to rest at certain times, but I was liking losing a lb or 2 every day. I'll stay off the scale until after the weekend. We're going away skiing for the weekend so hopefully when I get back the scale will have moved.

I had my lap RNY on 2/11/09. I'm 11 days out and feeling great. I really didn't have too many problems and it has been a smooth go so far. I had some bad left side pain at about 5/6 days out, but it has subsided. The doc thinks it may have been my body adjusting to the protein started a couple of days prior. This episode has passed and I've been on creams and have added some scrambled eggs. So far nothing food wise has been a problem and I'm feeling more healthy every day.
I've been increasing my walking and now up to doing 2-3 miles per day. I hope to get back to the gym for some light cardio soon. Overall my surgery was very smooth and the healing process is going very well.

Had my first visit with the surgeon yesterday

I went for all of my pre-op testing last Friday. The results show that I have gall stones and if I chose RNY, they will remove the gall bladder at the same time. I'm taking the weekend to think consider what surgery I'll be having. Initially I was going to have Lap Band surgery, but the closer I get to surgery the more I'm leaning toward RNY.
I have a surgery date of 2/11/09 and I'm struggling with the reality of having the surgery, yet excited at the prospect of finally having a solution to my life long problem. I've been fat since 2nd grade and have spent the last 10 years in particular cleaning up my life and focusing on health. I have a very regular, if not excessive exercise regime and believe I now have the discipline to do well with either surgery.

Appointments made

All of my appointments are made. I go to my PCP Tuesday, have all of my pre-op testing done this Friday and meet with the surgeon on 1/15. Hopefully approval will be quick, but my past experience with Cigna was not so great. Harvard Pilgram is supposed to be much better during the approval process. My BMI is around 35 now, however, it was 41 when I had my initial consult back in February 07.

I just made the call to get moving with the surgeon with my new insurance. i have my fingers crossed that Harvard Pilgram will be easier to deal with than Cigna.
