I have been overweight all my life from child hood to adult hood. My parents always said it was baby fat I would grow out of it, when I was sixteen I remember doing the Atkins diet and losing then gain it back. Then when I was in high school I weighted in at 150 to 160 on the heavy side but ok with it, I had a cyst on my spine and had to be flat on my stomach for a week and no solids, lost 30 lbs. met my husband. We have been together since 1977 been married 30 years in 2010, we have had our ups and downs I once lost so much weight my bones stuck out and I looked horrible. As the years went by and two children later I ballooned up to 275 lbs. I hated myself and our relationship wasn't so great, we loved each other no matter what, but sex was once or twice a year. I wanted to lose weight I tried everything, lost then gain more I was wearing size 26/28 stretch pants. Then I started looking at weight lost surgery I went to one doctor but he wasn't too incouraging so walk away sad. Then I continued my search and found Dr. Barba and went to his seminar and all the work started, my husband went along with it as long as I had the band. It was getting near the end of the year and we receive a letter in the mail from my husbands insurance that they wouldn't cover the surgery the next year, so I brought the letter to the surgeon and he said that if I was so commited that I quit smoking and was still losing weight we will get you in before the end of the year. So I was banded 12/30/2005 at 270 and when I came out the doctor commented how tight the band had been, well needless to say I was never able to get a fill and I lost really fast, but couldn't eat meat or any protein vomitted constantly. Finally in 2007 they decided to replace the band because it was so messed up 11/2007 at 186 lbs. band was replaced. I went from 186 to 220 lbs. over the next two years started having issues at the begining of 2009 band just was not agreeing I had slippage again then ended up with port infection that wouldn't go away. The doctor suggested RNY, I started investigating it at that point, didn't tell my husband because he was totally againest that operation from the beginning. I was scared but didn't want another band. So they send to get insurance approval and I was denied, then I had the other doctor write a letter to appeal and I was approved Hooray. So now to tell my husband he was very angry but read the letter the doc wrote and agreed it was the best way to go. So here I am down to 185 a 35 lb. lost and we are both excited, I actually got into a size 14 for the first time. Happy Happy Joy Joy!! So needless to say I have started a new life and hope I can continue on my weight loss journey.
