Blood Pressure
Aug 11, 2010
I didn't feel well when I got up for work this morning so stayed in bed...and thought I would go later. I ran to the store and thought well I was out I would run by the doctor's and have my blood pressure taken. I'm glad I did. It was 108/58. The doctor couldn't get me in...but he did order me a medication for 1/2 the dose. I go see him next wednesday. I'm hope the blood pressure medication will be the first meds. I'll be able to stop taking.
The last few days I've felt a little bloated and haven't lost much weight. This morning I was down 1.4 pounds again. Maybe once this B/P gets under control I bounce back!!!

I made it to my 2nd goal this week. On Friday I weighed in at 233.0. That put me at 20 pounds lost in 6 weeks and 1 day. I'm very happy with my lapband surgery. The first 20 pounds has come off faster then I thought it would. I go in to see Dr. Burghoff on Wednesday for my first fill. I'm wondering if I'll be cutting back to the little 1/4 cups?? I found out that I will be on full liquids for 24 hours after the band is filled.
Last night we went to dinner at friends. We've ate out a couple of times, but this was the first to be at someones house. They served steak, shrimp, corn and a rice dish. I had about 8 grilled shrimp. They tasted so good. They had a little olive oil and lime juice, salt and pepper. They tasted wonderful. Mike cooked them in a metal basket on the grill. We are going to order one for our grill. I figure I had about a 1/4 of a cup and a 1/4 cup of the steak. I had one spoonful of the corn. It was covered in butter so I didn't have anymore of it. I didn't have any of the rice. It felt good to be able to still go to friends and have them understand that I have to eat on a small plate and cut everything up very tiny.
After we left Mike and Karen's we went to New Whiteland to a bar to hear. We met the bass player at the party we went to last week. They were very good. I enjoyed them a lot. We had no booze, Drew ordered a coke for a $1.00. I had one sip...and was shocked at how sweet it was. I will not have any more soda, I will ask for water.
I have redone my measurements today. My waist is the one that changed the most. I will post that today too. Drew burned me a CD called turbo jam. We did it together and I'm sure we looked very funny. It was a really good workout for 20 minutes. Now to just do it daily.

It's been a busy week. I'm down to 235 as of today. I'm feeling really good and have got into some of my size 20 pants. I had my first dumping (throwing up) I was eating some tuna salad...and think I ate it too fast. I had a pain in my mid stomach area. I tried to walk around and get it to stop hurting. I took a drink and that made it worse. I ended up in the bathroom and threw up a little. I need to take it slow and remember to use my small spoons and to take more time. I think throwing up my have been a good reminder for me.
We went swimming on Saturday. It felt so good to be in the sun floating around. Saturday night we went to another pool party and played water volleyball. I wish I could play that everyday it was a good workout.
Tonight I mowed the lawn while Drew cut the hedges and ran the weedeater. It is so much easier to do little things like that mowing, I used to get really bad cramps in my calf...now I can do the whole (little) yard much faster.
My co-worker Julie has her pre-op date for gastric bypass. She goes in Aug. 9. I'm excited for her. It will be so nice for the two of us to work together on this journey.
I go back Dr. Berghoff next Wed. for my first fill. I'm ready...

2 weeks remeasure
Jul 17, 2010
I was hopping for less numbers on some of my measurments...but any loss is better then a gain.
Last night was the first time I went out to eat with Drew and friends. I was really wondering what him and I could share as a meal. He likes his foods very spicy and hot. I'm more of a mild to warm person. We ordered 3 enchilldas and I ate about 1/2 of 1 of them. It was very soft, and very tasty. I also had a few chips with some salsa. Neighter of us drank...so our bill was only $10 and change. The other couple had two large margaritas each, but we were able to enjoy their company hear about their children and jobs. It was a very nice evening out.
Tonight we are going to White River to a concert. I ate an soft boiled egg with a pc. of whole wheat toast with a little butter on it. It tasted very good. I think I will be having more of that for breakfast. I didn't eat until 10 AM. This afternoon around 2:30 I had a 1/2 cup of chicken breast Drew had cooked for me on the grill. It was seasoned with lemon pepper. I cut it in very small pcs. and added 1/2 cup of tomato sauce over it. Then I put in a 1/2 stick of string cheese to melt on top. It really didn't melt...but it did taste good.
I need to kick it up on my drinking. It's very hard to get all the liquids in...I would say that...and not being able to eat with my meal is the worst part of this surgery.
I'm healing nicely. My scars are very light. The one larger scar where my port is a little harder. They explained at class on Thursday evening that what we're feeling is not the port...but its the scar tissue healing. The port is set below that first layer of fat and we won't be able to feel it for awhile.
I weighted this morning and was down 2.4 pounds. I'm a very happy girl!!

Doing good
Jul 13, 2010
I haven't signed on for a couple days. We've been swimming over the weekend...and back to work on Monday. I find it's much easier to eat things at home then it is to go back to work. We are feeding the kids so often it makes me feel like I should have something too. I know it's just going to take a little time to replace my old habits.
I got down to 239 on Saturday. I need to do my weight and measurements on this sight. Stay tuned maybe by the weekend.
Work has been very slow...We had our monthly meeting tonight. They feed us salad, with ham and turkey and cheese. They also had cottage cheese. I was able to stay away from the cookies and soda. This is going to be a huge change...but one I'm looking forward to.
A couple of things I've noticed so far is I haven't had a headache or taken any asprin. My heat flashes have stop. I might have one every few days...it's not one after another, which is a much better feeling. I also was always Hot at work. Now I need to take a light jacket to work to wear during the day. That's not too bad for 3 weeks.
I'm heading to bed. Good Night!!

Back in the pool....
Jul 10, 2010
I was able to get in the pool for the first time last night. Drew had a meeting until 9:00 so we left the house and went to Greenwood to friends. They have the most amazing salt water pool. Last weekend I couldn't get in...and was so sad...Even thought it was 10:00 when we got in the pool was 92 degrees. We swam for 2 hours..then came home. I slept like a baby!!! I'm still not feeling real hungry. I'm eating more then a 1/2 cup for meals now. It's just hard to think what I should have???
We got up around 8:30 and did somethings around the house. Drew fixed me a scambled egg. It tasted good...but I would of love some more butter on it. We went to Greenwood and swam again today. I was wanting to get some sun...that didn't work out real well. It got cloudy so we left around 4. We went to Greenwood Mall to find some wooding planks to cook salmon on. We found some at a chef store...so tomorrow we're having Salmon. After church we're going to go to Costco and pick up the salmon. We need to look up info. on the salmon. They had sockeye and another type. One was very red where the other was more salmon colored...LOL
I worked out on my wii this morning. I'm doing really good at the running. I told Drew we need to go walk around the track at the school so can see how I can do with walking a mile or three for the walk on the 19th of September.
Kelly emailed me back...She's the girl I met during my pre-ob testing. She had her surgery right after me. She said she is hungry and it's getting harder. I'm glad I'm not at that point. I hit my 2nd goal on the wii. I'm down to 239...I haven't seen that number for awhile...I hope to fly past the 230's quickly!!!
Good Night...

My 2nd post op. meeting with the group
Jul 08, 2010
Today was a good day. I did much better getting my protein drinks down...and didn't do any of them as a meal.
I had a training at work on using music in the classroom. It was interesting and will try some of the ideas that were shared with us. I had about 2 oz. of chicken and noodle soup and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for lunch. I felt a little funny eating in front of a bunch of woman with my baby spoon. But OH WELL...in a year I'm sure it will all be worth it.
I left work at 4:45 to get to Community North for the meeting. I was about late. It rained a little and the traffic going North was a mess...but I made it. We didn't have as many people at the meeting tonight. I missed Kelly, the girl I met when I had my pre surgery test done. I like knowing people their. Drew didn't go...we thought my co-worker, Julie was going to go with me. She had to go help her daughter and sister with a job.
Pam was back from Rome and looked really good. Pam is our Nurse and leads some of the classes. She has had the lap band and has lost 75pounds. She said Rome was a great vacation. She watched what she ate...but the best part was all the walking and climbing you had to do. She also stated that she would not of enjoyed herself as much if she hadn't taken off the weight. Just the airplaine ride was different from before. I can't wait to be able to say all those things. We just have no idea how all this added weight takes away from our lives. I think because we put it on a little at a time...we forget the comforts that we used to enjoy.
During the meeting I was able to ask a few questions. It's just so nice to have feedback and hear how other people have experienced things. Most of the people there tonight have had the lapband. I think 2 men had the gastic bypass. They didn't talk too much...so most of the talk was about lapbands.
The questions I asked.
1. What is the typical weight loss per week with a band? Right now being on the liquids and the puree will be more and then as we start adding calories back in a typical weight loss... for a week is 1-2 pounds is the norm. I was hoping for a bigger number. I guess one thing to keep in mind is if it's coming off slow...the skin has time to get used to the new body. Loosing too much too fast can cause flappy skin. I really don't want that...so I'm using the 1-2 pounds as a good thing. (think positive!!)
2. When you notice your blood pressure going down and staying down...who do you talk to? Pam said they suggest you visit your family Dr. 6-8 weeks after your surgery to check your blood work. My blood pressure yesterday was 109/68. I'm hoping I'll be able to loose some of my medications if I get this weight off.
3. I asked if anyone else was feeling like a baby?? Example- I wonder from time to time if I'm hungry, thirsty or need to go the bathroom. It's so funny to have to get used to simple things about your body. Other people have felt the same way.
4. I asked if anyone was walking in the Obesity walk in September. About 6 of us are. I'm looking forward to meeting that goal. So many people on my Dad's side of the family run for fun. I've always wished I could run...with the help of my Wii every day...I think maybe I can do something like that. 1 mile might be my starting place...but I have to start somewhere. I wonder where I'll be in 6 months??
5. How do you handle people asking questions at work that know you've had surgery? A few of the people said they've offered or given them the pre-surgery diet. Letting people ask questions is good and can help them see if this is for them. I just don't want to seem cocky...or make people feel that this is the only way too losse weight. I know this is a TOOL to take weight off. It helps me to not be hungry all the time...and makes me be accountable for everything I stick in my mouth.
It's funny as we get older and watch our children get older. Why do they look older when I don't feel much older then they are??? I hope I have that feeling for a very long time. I love my boys so much...and I'm hoping getting this weight off will give me more energy to enjoy life for many years. I hope they never have to fight this demon of weight the way I have. Cole is 25 and has got heavy over the last few years...but like his mother...he has an underactive thyroid. He has got back on his medication and I hope it is helping him. It's not fun to carry around all this extra weight. Codie is 22 and has put on some weight...but is not over weight at all.
Tonight I had a phone call from one of my closest friends, Leslee. She has always been such a postitive friend. She is following my blog and really made me feel good about myself. Knowing that someone is reading it will help me too. I don't want to let anyone down. I want to be a positive person for others. No matter if they do a surgery or a diet/exercise program. We're all in the same boat and need that positive prayers and thoughts from our family and friends. Drew has been wonderful about telling me how proud he is of me. I've been getting up at 6:00 and reading my daily readers from Al-Anon, take my meds, and vitamins. Then I start with the Wii workout. Not only am I helping my body....I'm cleaning my mind....and use that alone time to Thank God for a wonderful life and people he has givien me.
At 45 my life seems to finally be coming together. Thank you God for all the roads I have traveled. It's made me a real person!!

My first Post op. visit
Jul 07, 2010
I met with Dr. Berghoff today for my first post op. visit. He said everything is healing well. He said a couple of the incisions were still bruised and to let him know if they get hot or red.
Jeanna told me somethings I had not understood before. I have been drinking my protein drinks for breakfast and with some meals. They are to be taken alone, not as a meal or with a meal. I also should be taking 3 calicum pills and not 2. She also said she is not fond of the one a day gummy vitamins. She said they don't have as many units of vitamins as some of the others. I will need to find something either chewable or in a liquid. I will double up on them until they are gone.
Jenna also said I could be eating up to 1 or 1.5 cups of food. She also told me to eat what I'm comfortable with. I'm still having some problems learning what I'm feeling...am I full, hungry, need to go to the bathroom, thirsty...or did I drink to fast.??????? It's kind of funny that you need to relearn your own body.
I go back to Dr. Bergoff in 4 weeks and that will be my first fill for my lapband.
Tomorrow is my weekly post ob. meeting. My friend from work is going with me so she can hear from people who have had the Gastic Bypass like she's having. She is just waiting for her insurance paperwork to come back and get a surgery date.
Tonight was the first night I could eat food that can be pureed. I had a couple ham slices...chopped very small (1/4 cup)
Some beef soup 1/4 cups and a 1/4 of cottage cheese. I am really hungey for salmon. I think I'll try to get a nice piece of it this week.
Drew and I went to Cost-co and got a membership. He thinks we'll save enough money there purchasing my vitamins and fish oil pills there. They do have some very good looking fish there.
I started to ad sit-ups to my day of workouts. I wanted to start with 10...6 was all I could do tonight. I'll try 10 again tomorrow. I ran 1.5 miles in 10.5 mins. I hope to improve before my Sept. 16 walk/run.

Day 12- Post Op.
Jul 06, 2010
Work was slow today. We had 3 children out on vacation. My best friend at work had her appointment with Dr. Mary and Jenna. She hopes to find out when her surgery will be. I can't wait...it will be very nice to have a partner at work. She also is suffering from a lot of health problems due to being over weight. We joke that our room is the unhealthy room---but not for much longer.
I got up at 6:00 this morning and ran the long track on the Wii. I was able to make it to the end and finished. It logged me for 13 min. I didn't think I would be able to make it...but I did!!!! I came home tonight and finished working out on the Wii. I ran out of time this morning. I did 32 mins. total.
Today at work I didn't have enough to eat. Lunch was fine. I had a 1/4 cup very loose tuna, very little mayo, onion and celery. 1/4 cup. of cottage cheese, and a 1/4 of a cup of lima beans run through the food processer. I also drank a protein shake after some time had past from eating. Around 4:30 my eyes started to feel funny. I was reading a book to the children and it was almost like a prizum. I chewed on a couple crackers and that helped. I need to take something to snack on around 5:00 just to get me through until I get home and eat at 7:00. I eat lunch around 11:30...so it's quite a few hours between meals.
The shorts I wore to school today were ones that I had put up, and were very snug at the start of summer. I'm happy to say I can pull them off without unbuttoning them or unzipping them. They may be my first item to give to the clothing box at Community North.
I have my 2 week appointment with Dr. Berghoff tomorrow at 3:00. I think it will be a very good report. I feel fine...I'm doing more movement then I've done in years. My insistions look really good. I hope he thinks the same.

Day 11 - 4th of July weekend
Jul 05, 2010
Wow...this has been a very hard weekend. We always go to a 4th of July weekend to a pool party. I couldn't swim, due to the insisions. So I sat in the house and played on the computer. I took my own food-but it was still very hard to have all the regular foods there and not be able to partake in them. I really felt really left out of the loop. Smelling all the foods and knowing you can't have them. If I had to redue this weekend I think I should of picked some other things to do the go to this party. Looking back on it...it was a bad idea. I ate a couple things I shouldn't of had example- watermelon, potato salad. I tried to get something soft that I could eat. I still lost over the weekend. So that was good.
I also went to the movie Esclipes. The movie was good, but I didn't enjoy being there by myself. People asked to go...but I didn't want anyone to take away from the pool time to spend it in a dark theater. I think it's the first movie I've been to that I didn't have popcorn. Popcorn is one of my most favorite foods. I got a bottled water and a soft pretzel and ate a small corner. Note to myself for next time.... sneak something into the show that I can eat and do the water again. I haven't had soda in 2 months and I don't miss it at all. If I'm thirsty when out doing things I can pick up a water, tomato juice, apple juice or something else without the fizz.
All in all not a very good weekend for me. But I've learned a lot and will not let some of this happen to me again. I'm glad the next holiday is a ways out and I won't have to battle with this again. I look forward to going to class and being able to talk to others about how they handle social events.
