4 months and 80 pounds gone.
Oct 23, 2006
4 Months out from surgery. I have lost about 80 pounds. I am very happy at the amount of weight that I have lost. It has not been easy. For some reason, food does not taste good to me. I have to find things I can eat since a lot of food is nasty. That is something I am trying to cope with. Also, my hair has finally started falling out. I was not surprised because I do not get in the protein I am supposed to. I have naturally curly hair and my hair is so thick anyway, people just assume I got it thinned out. I am actually getting compliments on my hair. If only they knew! hehehe. The holidays are coming up which is a big test. I have been blessed to not have many complications from my surgery. I have not ever thrown up. I also have not ever had a dumping syndrome (knock on wood). I think it is primarily because I dont push myself to eat enough or try a lot of new foods do to the fear of throwing up and having a dumping syndrome. I was a size 26 before surgery and a BMI of 50.1 and now I am in a size 18 pants and a 16/18 shirt and a BMI in the 30's. If I never lost one more pound, I can honestly say that I am soo happy I did this surgery and my life is 100% better and healthier.
6 Weeks after surgery
Aug 05, 2006
I am six weeks out from surgery. Surgery went fine without any complications. I did stay in the hospital for three nights and four days because I was running a fever. I don’t remember much the first day because every time I woke up, I hit my pain button.!! I have never had a major surgery before so to me, it was fairly painful for the first couple of days. After that, I was happy to get home and in my own bed. The first couple of weeks were the hardest. It was a lot harder than I expected. When everyone says you will not be hungry, they really mean it! You basically have to force yourself to eat (actually drink). Even now, I have to remember to eat three times a day. I still struggle with only eating twice a day sometimes. Last week (week 5) was the first time I was able to start eating solid foods. I have felt quite a bit better with my energy level since then. I am still lacking a lot of energy and that was the hardest part. I wanted to be able to get out and do things but just taking a shower and washing my hair in the morning made me exhausted. I know it is primarily because I am not getting in the protein I am supposed to get in. I am working on that. I did go for my 6-week check up and I have lost 40 pounds. I am very excited about my weight loss. I hope I can keep it up. I am no longer taking any medicine for my diabetes and I am not using my CPAP machine anymore either. I am so excited about that. Now, if I can just be at 100% energy, I will be happy. In any event, I am really glad I was able to do this surgery and I would not change a thing! 40 Pounds gone forever! Woo HOOO. I still have at least 100 pounds to go but that is a great start!
