One Month Post OP
Nov 19, 2007
Today I had my one month post op visit. I have lost 43 pounds and my BMI is down to 46. This journey so far has been incredible -- and its only been a month! I have experienced so many emotions/hurdles/successes over the past month that it's almost surreal. I am finally on my way to transforming into the real 'me'. Something of concern today -- I may have a hernia near one of the incision sites, however at this point we have decided to just keep an eye on it and see what happens -- hopefully it is just swelling remaing from surgery. All blood work was ok except for iron - I am not absorbing as I should -- so need to start the iron pills.
The people in OH Chat have been so wonderful -- couldn't have gotten here without you guys -- thank you!
Surgery and the week after

Still have the fear I won't lose, but it is coming off already -- so that has boosted my confidence. Cant wait to come back and report actual losses!
I guess I am oficially now a 'loser' -- yeah!
The Countdown

Two days and counting..... the last week has been the beginning of a new journey. The liquid diet is going ok -- have not lost as much weight as i had thought, but have adhered to the diet!
I have met so many wonderful people the last week and have been offered so much support. That kept me going -- knowing that there is hope and that I can do it as so many others have.
Thursday the 18th will be here before I know it and I can continue this awesome journey.
The start of something new!

Here's a bit of my story.... 3 years ago I needed to have both hips replaced. Still unsure exactly why, but biopsies showed some AVN. All was going fine, had returned to work and was almost 2 years post op when out of nowhere I could not weight bear on my left leg. Initially thought prothesis had loosened -- after months and months of testing and not being able to walk -- decided that it had not, did not know what went wrong, told me to just stay off my feet as much as I could and wait. Six months passed and I was still sitting in the recliner in my family room. No answers in sight, I was gaining weight from inactivity -- almost 50 pounds on my already overweight self -- so I called and made an appointment to talk to my doc about gastric bypass.
If the docs werent gonna help I decided I needed to help myself. My family doc agreed gastric bypass would be a positive approach. That was in April of 2007. I started the process needed for insurance coverage, lost about 20 pounds along the way and was officially approved for surgery on Sept. 27, 2007.
I need to lose 186 to be at an ideal weight -- looking forward to the journey and finally being able to live again.
