Hello. Here I am finally admitting I need another way out of this fat body.I, like most of you, have done and failed at every diet we've heard of.I researched this operation (RNY) for over a year and now I am going to do it. I have a surgery date on Feb 12, 2007. My insurance company was easy because it is through the military and the surgery will be performed at a military hospital so lucky for me I did not have to suffer like so many of you. I have felt so bad for so many of you because of the fight you had with other ins. companies...but I am also so proud of you for continuing to fight. Keep me in your prayers on the 12th. I am 46 and weigh 240. I have been married for 26 years (to the same great guy) have 3 young adult children and I am excited to start my older age living with a new look and healthier. I have diabetes, high cholesterol and swelling in one leg and herniated disks in my neck from the weight. Will write more later.
Feb. 1,2007-I have an appt. for pre-op on the 8th and surgery on the 12th. The closer it gets the more nervous I get!!! Reading profiles day and night..learning more everyday. Thanks for being so honest..it really has helped.
Feb. 8, 2007- Actual date today is May 15, 2007 but I was not able to update my photos or story...forgot my password and then gave OH my email address wrong!!! Well, pre-op went well, no surprises. I was shocked that I never met my anesthesia doc not even on surgery day.
Feb. 12,2007-Morning of surgery. I put myself on a liquid diet this past weekend because I read where so many civilian docs make you do it but the military docs do not...I wanted everything to go good so I lost 4 pounds over the weekend and then I remembered that the doc said if I lost too much I would not qualify...I was afraid when they said they might weigh me the morning of surgery. They did not weigh me but I weighed myself before I left home.
Feb. 13, 2007- Day after surgery....PURE HELL!!!! I just have to be honest. I had some complications during surgery and the pain was unbearable for me. I have a low tolerance I guess for that much pain. During surgery the doc knicked my bowel and I had to have a ton of antibiotics for 4 days, 4 leak tests, ultrasounds, xrays, blood work, multiple shots and I am allergic to most pain meds and during my hospital stay found out I am now allergic to morphine too. My pain was not controlled but I walked and walked and walked some more..I think that is the only thing that saved me.
Feb 14, 2007- Third day in hospital...still in severe pain. I had to have a drain tube because of the knicked bowel. The tube never hurt. I could not eat anything. I had severe nausea immediately after surgery and during my stay in the hospital..I have a great tip for anyone with nausea...right after surgery I woke up and said I was going to throw up and a med tech grabbed an alcohol swab and shoved it under my nose and told me to breath deep through my nose and out of my mouth....IT WORKED. I had to do that 7 more times while in and out of the hospital...he saved my life.
2-15-07- Came home from hospital. Hubby took leave from work and helped me...alot! The hardest thing was using the bathroom..sitting down on the toilet seemed to be a long way down and painful getting up. I found the perfect protein drink at a place called Max Muscle here in Fort Walton Beach Florida. They have strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and my favorite banana. 8 oz. water with 1 scoop powder is 30 g. protein. I have enjoyed getting my protein in but I can not get water in.
2-21-07-First checkup and my official start weight was 246 in Jan 07 and now I weigh 226. At preop my weight was 238.5 so since surgery I am down 12.
3-26-07-I slept in a lift chair recliner for over 5 weeks and it was great...but I am now in my bed but it is painful to sleep on my sides still. Getting all protein in but still not enough water. 12 days after surgery I got kidney stones and I mean alot of stones. I had to stop the calcium. I passed a total of 16 stones.I had to go to the ER to have help passing the last one. I am still not taking the calcium but I am drinking fat free milk to make up the difference. I never got sick except one time after trying to eat a salad...NEVER AGAIN.
4-26-07-Down from 238 to 196 in 2 and 1/2 months. Still great with protein and walking on treadmill 5 days a week. Spend time with hubby on weekends so no exercising then. Eat almost anything except eggs, hot dogs, no bread and some meats.
5-14-07-Went for blood work today. Have doc appt on 5-17 so will get official weight. My scale says 184. Will write more after doc appt. I have to say that this website has been a blessing for me. I am still reading profiles and getting encouragement from all the stories. I seem to be losing much slower than I expected but will take all I can. Take care and talk again soon.
5-17-07 Had my 3 month check up with doc. Down 62 pounds.Blood work looked great.Need to add extra vitamin with iron every other day or so.Need to walk more but doc was happy with weight loss. I think I need to do more so will up my walking time and see if more weight will come off.Very slow loser and not pleased with it yet. He said I will need a TT next year after my one year anniversary. I know I need it but I don't want any more pain right now. I only need one diabetes pill and one thyroid pill right now and soon he said I will not need the diabetes meds anymore. Well, got to go walk on the treadmill.Take care and talk again soon.
5-27-07 I have not written in a while but there is no change in my weight and I am getting upset about it. I have been doing what I am supposed to do but I have not lost any more weight in about 3 weeks!!! What am I supposed to do. I am going to increase my exercise starting tomorrow but I seem to be able to eat more these days than when I first had to operation? What is up with that? Well, got to go get on the treadmill again. Talk again soon.
6-5-07 Well, my scale finally started to be nice to me!! I have come off of the dreaded plateau and lost another 2 pounds. I realized I have not been drinking enough water and exercising enough so I kicked myself in the butt and am forcing the water in. I will be 4 months post op on June 12th and my weight loss so far is 57 pounds. I still have another week until the 4 month mark so maybe I can lose the other 3 pounds to make it 60 which was one of my goals. I really want to be at 155 by August 18th for my hubby's family reunion. I will need to lose 27 more pounds to be at that goal so I have 10 weeks and 3 days to get to that goal...wish me luck. I have been working in my flower beds the last few days and it is really hot here in Florida so the sweat is really helping to get the extra fat moving and the scale to go down. Well, got to go walk. Talk again soon.
11-13-2007 I have been avoiding this website because I keep hitting plateaus with my weight loss. I did not get to 155 by August but here it is Nov and I am 9 months post op and now weigh 156. I am 14 pounds from what the doctor says I should end up weighing. I have lost a total of 90 pounds since Jan and 83 pounds since surgery day. I am not exercising much any more due to the fact I have no one to do it with and it gets harder and harder to do it myself. I do get all my protein in but mostly by protein drinks. Still not able to get all the water in though. I am happy with my weight at this time. I went from a size 24 pants to a size 10. Some days I think I can eat more but then my stomach lets me know I must be crazy!!! I like the fact that I can't overeat anymore. My family has bee wonderful and complimentary all the time about how great I look and act with the weight loss and my health is much better. No more diabetes meds and no cholesterol meds. I would not change a thing. I hope I reach my goal of 140 by my one year mark in Feb.
12-26-2007 I have had my 9 month check up a little late due to insurance mix up and my weight was 152. The doctor said they had my post weight at 242 so I have lost 90 pounds in 9 months.I still have 10 pounds to the goal the doctor set for me...it is coming off so slowly. I am starting back to the gym today because I have not been going much lately. When you do not have anyone to go with it gets boring and I stopped. I would love to buy a bike and ride instead of walking the treadmill everyday. My hair started falling out around 3 months and it is still falling out a little...I think it slowed down but it looks really, really bad.Well, I am off to the gym. Good luck everyone. I would do this again if I had to. I am wearing a size 10 and loving the clothes.
