Online Support

Apr 13, 2013

Wow, I am finding all of the posts people add to this forum to be inspiring, terrifying, hope inciting and overall very interesting. Surgery sounds scary and painful. Losing some weight sounds amazing when some healing comes.

I realize that I am an emotional eater. I am working on that with my supports. I am also an opportunistic eater. If the carbs and sweets are there, I eat them...without an "off" switch.

There is so much raw, painful, wonderful honesty on the forums...I am thankful that people take the time to share their experiences, fears, hopes, challenges and successes. I will try to do the same for those who come after me.

And so it begins...

Apr 09, 2013

Well, after 5 years of researching, soul searching and decision making, my family doctor is making a referral to the Ontario Bariatric Registry for me today. My hospital will be St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton. There will likely be at least a 6 month waiting list, which is fine. It sounds like there are a lot of tests and preparation to be done. I feel hopeful and happy about this decision. I need to look into making a will and a living will before surgery. I need to have these anyway, so this is a push I need. My current weight is 286 pounds and I am 5' 8.5 inches tall. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, skin rashes, severe shortness of breath and am having mobility issues due to my weight.
