5 Weeks Post op

Jan 07, 2008

Hi again,
It's been a while - you know Holidays and all that stuff... Anyway, I'm feeling pretty good. LapBand port site is a bit tender still, but does not give me zingers anymore if I switch over to lying on my left side at night. Down about 10 pounds since surgery, which is actually up 10 pounds since two weeks ago. I guess this is normal for LapBand.

My first LapBand fill is a week from now. I find I can eat just about any kind of protein I want too. No problems with Hamburger or red meat like some people have PostOp. Start working out again. Hired a Personal Trainer who I instructed to kick my "you know where".  He's doing a good job so far, and I felt muscles that I've not used in a long time. Goal is to work out 6 times per week. Starting with two times per week - adding one day per week, each week. Therefore, in 4 weeks from now, I hope to be doing at least 6 day @ 30 minutes a day.

Eating five to six times a day is the biggest challenge. I have to really just head downstairs and make breakfast before I start anything in the morning. I work from Home Office, so it's a dicipline I need to develop.

People are asking already have I lost all my weight yet? Please, I didn't gain this weight overnight, and it's not coming off in a month. Boy some people - they are either dumb or insensative.

Heading off for my first business trip Postop tomorrow. Planning on packing some Beef Turkey Nuggets I found on the Internet, and some Tuna lunch packs, along with a few protein bars to try and get in those 5 to 6 meals per day on the road. Will be an intereting week...

Anyway, that's about it for now....

Cheers,
Lux

Day 3 Post Op

Dec 03, 2007

Hey, I made it through! Everthing went great, no complications. Pain is not bad - Port area is sorest. Heard it will take a few weeks to get better. Dr. Snyder had me stay overnight due to Sleep Apnea. Went home next day. Walking around ok. I've got two more days before I get to try soft foods.

Down 6 pounds already from date of Surgery. Anyway, it was easier than I expected. Real work begins after Christmas. First port in January.

Never give up, never give up, never give up!!!

Count Down to Surgery

Nov 21, 2007

Lots has happened in the past few weeks. To sum up. Insurance changed policy and now permits Lap Band above BMI of 50 as long as rest of qualifications met.

I received insurance approval two weeks ago. Met with Surgeon today, and am at 10lbs from pre-surgery goal. Surgery scheduled for November 30th. Things are happening very fast now. I have final weigh in and pre-op meeting with Surgeon next Wedneday.

This almost does not seem real - might have to pinch myself.

Lots to be Thankful for...

Happy Thanksgiving,
Lux

It's two days into fast. I've dropped alot of water weight and probably have eliminate most of the waste in my intestinal tract. Down to 455 . Working from a modified fast:
1 Coffee, cream and suger - Morning

Water and Propel during daytime

2 Cups of package chicken broth with noodles - dinner

2 pickel wedges

Evening 1/2 cup of carrots with ranch

Sound real fun huh?

2 Days down 38 to go...

Time to get serious

Jul 29, 2007

I changed surgeons last April to Dr. Michael Synder at Denver Bariatric. Back then I was given the mission to loose 50 pounds. Well, it's been up and down for past few months.

My Company cut Bariatric Surgery coverage last year, but I was able to obtain a Transistion of Care exclusion for 1 year. That is to say, I have through 2007 to get the procedure done.

Therefore:
I need to really get serious about loosing this 50 pounds. I by working through a Medically Supervised Weight loss process using Optifast with an MD. I been doing this since February will little sucess.

So, I going ahead with what I think will be the best option considering the time available. I going to do a 40 day fast. I have done this before with great results. I know how to do this safely. I think it will reinitiate the discpline that I need to get thing done quickly since the year to coming to a close.

Anyway, thats what I am going to do, here we go day 40 and counting...

Feb 12, 2007

Well, it's official. I been given three options by my current Surgeon.

1) Pay cash - for Lap Band
2) Find another Surgeon
3) Hire an Attorney to beat up my Insurance Company

He won't do Gastric By-pass which is the only procedure my insurance will pay for.  The irony is that one of the reason's the Surgeon won't do Gastric By-pass is my BMI is over 50, is the same reason my Insurance won't pay for Lap Band. Seems like a catch-22...

So unless someone wants to donate $13 K to me for being such a nice guy, or wants to do pro-bono work on beating up my insurance. I guess I am stuck with finding another Doc...

I've only been jumping through hoops for the past couple years, what can a few more matter...
