Dear Carol Ann, I, too, am having surgery soon (May 3rd) and have gained weight since I started my journey in Sept 2001. I gave myself permission to eat whatever I wanted because I had been on a diet for 19 years and I knew I'd be on another diet for the rest of my life after surgery, however I have since realized that my appetite will be much more under control so it won't be bothering me so much. I have gained about 20 lbs over the winter and am trying to maintain now before surgery. I try not to feel guilty about the weight gain because that makes it worse. Take it easy on yourself and just look to the future when you'll be losing and not feeling deprived like you have on every other diet you've ever been on. God Bless

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!!!!! Both my husband and I went on a binge before our surgery. It felt like our LAST MEAL before our execution! We tried to eat all our favorites and lots of them. Not a good idea. Food is not going to disappear after surgery, it will still be there. Although you can't eat it in large quantities, eventually you will be able to eat just a bite or two.
