 Hi!  It has been a long time since I wrote; no excuses, just will try to be better.  It is very cold now, compared to the last time I wrote when it was hot and no air conditioning.  One thing I have found since I've lost weight is that I get colder much faster than before; I am not complaining, just realizing how much insulation I had before.  I always have a sweater or a sweatshirt with me now!

This month is usually a month of resolutions and goals.  Goals are good for you, but you want to make sure it is an attainable goal, a realistic goal.  My goal for the next four weeks (a definitive time) is going to be to increase my amount of exercise.  Exercise has become difficult for me to get done, purely mental reason why it's not being accomplished.  No physical reason involved.  So I am going to do at least 2 days of 30 minutes of exercise a week for the next four weeks.  Hopefully I will do more, but I am setting an attainable goal for me at this point in time.  

What is a goal for you?  Will it be increase exercise?  Make sure you get the right quantity of protein at least 2 days a week (60gms)?  Decrease the amount of 'food extras' that snuck into your diet over the holidays and have taken a semi-permanent residence in your food intake for the day?  Think about it and set a goal for yourself that you can attain.  Write it down so you can see daily what your goal is.  And then 4 weeks from today, February 23rd, take a step back and see how you are doing.  And when you realize you have met  your goal, reward yourself with something that will make you feel good ~ small piece of jewelry, soaking in a bubble bath, get that cute shirt that you've had your eye on....and then set another attainable goal...you can do it!!

hello. got the ac fixed ~ glad that happened quickly:) walt had his surgery on Wednesday and is doing well. smarty pants pulled a fast one on me- he gets on the phone - i am in terrible pain, so uncomfortable, just really hurting (i am feeling so bad for him, trying to think what it could be - figuring gas) when he says, maybe it was the steak i had for lunch. (my head goes - did he just say steak??) my mouth says, did you just say you had steak?? yes....(but then he couldn't help laughing....dind't have any steak at all - in fact no pain - was doing very very well! great for him - but paybacks can be something to steer clear of:) hope you all are hydrated and in good spirits!

that is what i keep telling myself as i sit under the fan. the ceiling fan. because our ac is on the fritz. my goodness, it is only 20 years old....what could be wrong? i need to keep drinking my fluids because i am sweating out alot. it is amazing how spoiled i have become being able to just turn the air on when it gets hot. my poor puppies in their fur coats...they aren't quite sure what is going on and why they are so hot. i guess it is good for all of us:) i hope everyone is doing well, staying cool and hydrated! take it easy! lucy

hello - just gotta say that i guess the rain kept me from exercising - yup, that's it. i am looking all around for my motivation and just can't find it. work is really busy and i am tired when i leave - it is an on my feet all day job. poor poor pitiful me:) how is everyone else doing? ready for this heat wave?? be sure to get all your fluids in this weekend (of course everyday) but especially this week ~ it will be easy to get dehydrated. I am going to call Walt tonight and see how he made out yesterday. I will let you know! Take care, stay strong and be well. Lucy oh - by the way - i have a chocolate cake with homemade butter cream frosting sitting on my counter and a batch of brownies. i did not eat any this morning - one little brownie last night - but my daughter wants to be a pastry chef...when she is bored she bakes. i keep repeating, nothing tastes as good as thin feels....

Can't think of anything else right now.  So far this week I have only done one day of exercise.  Need to get hopping!  Why is exercise so tough for me?????

2008 already!  Closing in on my bandiversary.  So hard to believe.  Lots happened in 2007...into the OR 3 times and not for work!  Had the band put in March, fixed the flipped port in August and replaced my Right knee in October.  So 2008 offers me a clean slate!  I am going to make the most of it.  Since I had the band put in I have been blessed with being involved in a fantastic support group - this group of women and men are the best!  We all have our victories and our problems on the way to victories and we know that through it all we have each other.  I also have been fortunate to find an exercise facility, PMRI of Christiana Care, that has wonderful staff and clientele - they have become part of my family too!  From being in a place where I didn't want to go out and socialize because I did not like myself to now looking forward to seeing my friends at exercise and seeing my friends at the support group meeting ~ this has been an exciting journey.  And it really has started with the prep work for the band.  Thank you to all who have made 2007 so memorable - and to the opportunities that are ahead in 2008!

Hi!  I am Lucy Knappenberger, Obesity Help Support Group leader, and I welcome you to the Great Beginnings South online group.  I am not usually a blogger so bear with me!  This new feature from Obesity Help is an exciting one.  I hope that the 'groups' feature will allow more people to access local support here in Delaware and also see what others in different states across the country are doing.  I also see this as another resource avenue ~ please ask questions and if I don't know the answer I can get one for you from the OH administration and also other members of the online group hopefully will be able to help as well. Everyone has something to offer.  Be sure to check out the New Life WLS Support Group from the Southern part of Delaware; Joanne is a fabulous leader and has wonderful ideas and is just a great person...someday I will meet her in person and 'see her lighter!'.

july 5th already! where'd it go???

i'm a couple weeks over 3months.  kinda plateauing.  needing to get myself focused again.  i'm down 33/34 pounds and pleased with that but need to get back to the program.  i was sick and then my knees were bad - i need to get back to exercise - haven't been in a week.  not cool!  i leave for vacation saturday - can't wait.  i'm okay in my head about doing this - i've set myself a goal of losing 2 pounds over vacation.  that is doable.  i have joined amanda's labor day challenge.  i have gone back to dr dj - my psychologist to help me out - need to find a new way of consoling myself/coping skills other than the fine tuned approach of eating for emotions that i've acquired over the years!  and oh how well i did that!  this journey is not an easy one, and nothing that is worth anything is easy.  i never thought it would be easy, but experiencing things is not always the same as what one expects!  i'm not sure what i expected - but the 'lucy' influence is definitely involved.  not sure if this makes sense to anyone, but it does to me.  
my first support group meeting as a leader went well - because the ladies who came are phenominal!  I feel very fortunate to have met them!  they will keep me going!
i will post after vacation - see how far down i am:)  til then.....

I'm obese!!!!  let me explain....according to my BMI i am no longer morbidly obese, i am just obese:)  little things to be proud of.  next goal - halfway obese:)
