5 days post op
Feb 28, 2010
Okay, so Today is day 5 after surgery. I weighed myself this morning and I am 229 down from my day of surgery weight of 240. The thing is, I feel pretty craptapulous. I have finally gotten the pain from the gas to get better, but the shortness of breath remains. This really sucks because I wanted to be back at work today. I am really happy about the weight loss and blessed that I am loosing weight and hopefully this will get me on a path to wellness and my stinking pseudotumor will go away. That was the whole point of this. My family has been amazing and my kids have been really cute. My 5 year old daughter said she was my nurse and if I must say so, she did an excellent job of taking care of her mommy.
Anyway, I called my surgeons office and they say that it is normal to feel this shortness of breath because they actually performed two surgeries at one time when I had the band placed. Apparently, I had a hiatal hernia that was removed and there are some internal stitches. I am must admit I am a little disappointed in my surgeon because he didn't tell my husband that he removed the hernia. I found out on Friday after we became so concerned about the pressure in my chest and trouble breathing we called in and the medical assistant told me. The pain in my chest is gone now, so hopefully this shortness of breath will get better as well.
Man, who would have thought the food cravings would be gone. My husband is frying bacon now and that really kinda sucks because the smell makes me want some, but then the thought of eating right now makes me want to gag. I think I'll stick with my water and protien shakes, lol. I am still on the liquids and will be for the next couple of weeks, and I think he is trying to torture me because he's been cooking good stuff everyday. Friday he grilled burgers stuffed with onions and bellpepper, AND made bacon wrapped stuffed jalepenos. Then on Saturday we had a baby shower for my sister will all the good/bad for you stuff, cheese dip, chicken salad sandwhiches, sweet tea, etc. And I had, dundada Chicken Broth, Water and a protien shake, lol. Eveyone kept looking at me with sad eyes and I was okay. Didn't want the food at all.
Hopefully after today, I will be able to get back to work tomorrow and have things return to normal for me. Keep me in your prayers. If anyone has any tips or warning on the shortness of breath, let me know.

The doctor said he had to remove a hiatal hernia during the surgery. Has anyone else had to have this. The pain in almost unbearable, I keep getting up to walk and move around, but I am still hurting. Anyone have any advice on what to do?
