I officially started my WL journey January 08. I had been thinking about it for about 5 years. It was put off when I became pregnant with my 5th child and nursed him for 3 years. I started seriously considering it 6 months before January 08 and then made the decision to do it. I want to improve my health, I want to prevent diabetes and high blood pressure. I already have sleep apnea. I want to run and be active with my kids. I want to coach my youngest in Soccer. I want to take ballet with my daughter. I want to ride horses. I want to play tennis with my teenage boys. I can't do any of these things now because I hurt and I get OOB. I attended the Orientation at OHSU in late January 08 along with my husband. I decided to continue with the process. I submitted all my medical history to OHSU, had to submit more and I waited and waited and waited. I was called them after a month and then every 2 weeks and then down to 2 weeks. Finally they reviewed my medical history and called me today, May 15 with an appt. date this month with the Dietician, but I won't have an appt. with the Nurse Practioner until early August. That seems so far away, I had really hoped, in January that I would have the surgery by June. But, i know it is a process and I believe it will happen for me and I will get healthy and an improved quality of life. I just hope it is done by December now!!
Thursday, June 19. I had my dietician appt. It was great. She was very encouraging and supportive. I really appreciated the notebook and going over it with me. I am working on getting my psych eval. She was able to make a referral to my insurance company to get me started on the Telephone Counseling. I had my first official appt. last Friday. It was really good. They sent me a workbook, a journal and a pedometer. It is really helping me make small change a little at a time and I have actually lost 2.5 lbs!! Yeah!! I still get very OOB and painful with a lot of walking but I keep doing it!!
Sunday, September 7: I had my RN nurse practioner appt in early August. I needed a current PAP and my Psych eval sent to them and they would submit for insurance. My blood work revealed at the RN appt. that I was very low on Vitamin D. So I am already on citracal and weekely vita D for 8 weeks. My insurance approved my surgery on Sept. 2 and the Coordinator at OHSU called me on Friday, September 5 with a SURGERY DATE!! I am so excited, I started getting teary. I meet with the surgeon on September 16 and to have a pre-op class and pre-surgery testing. I finally believe it is gonna happen. It has been a long 9 months but it has been good. The Call to Change telephone counseling was great. The material and the gals I talked to were very helpful. I have lost a total of 8 lbs. Dr. O'Rourke wants me to lose 5 more. Juan will attend the appt. with me on the 16th. I am gonna start trying some samples of protein drinks.
