Six months out

May 01, 2009

I continue to be nauseated and vomit way too much.  I have tried all sorts of anti nausea meds, none of which have worked.  Yesterday I had an endoscopy procedure and the doctor  stretched my esophagus and pylorus.  He is not confident that will fix my problem, but it is the first step.  I posted about this on the DS forum and had several responses about others who experienced the same thing.  It sounds like I am just one of the unlucky ones, but that it will eventually go away.

On the positive side, I have lost 116 pounds.  I am 221 and can wear 16/18 pants and 14/16 tops.  Buying clothes is so much nicer!  The only problem is I hesitate to spend very much on things that I will not be able to wear before long.

Even with my nausea problems, I am still VERY GRATEFUL I had the DS!  My back hardly hurts at all and my knee is getting better.  What a difference 100 lbs. makes!!

Progress Report

Jan 06, 2009

I am almost eleven weeks out.  Unfortunately I still have nausea and eat very little but vomiting is much better.  I have very few clothes that fit and that is good.  Actually I have some really neat light weight summer print capris but it is January!  By the time the season is right those will be too big.  You see, four and one half years ago I lost 80 lbs. and bought some cute clothes before I quickly starting regaining it.  I am 11 pounds from that low point.  Before that, it had been about 15 years since I was under 300 lbs.!  So soon I will be in territority I haven't seen in 15 years.  That feels good.

I have had serious back and knee problems for the past 15 years.  I went into surgery with a cane and I put it down about a month after surgery.  If I had been able to lose the weight (and keep it off) before DS you would think that the prospect of walking better and with less pain would have caused me to do it.  Isn't DS wonderful!

Life after surgery

Dec 08, 2008

It is a little over six weeks from surgery.  I have had a time of nausea and vomiting.  Nearly everything makes me sick, but especially those chewable vitamins.  I can do the Flintstone gummy ones, but not that chalky stuff.  I have ordered ADEK gel caps so when they arrive I will be able to get them down.  I have a patch behind my ear and an oral med for nausea which helps some but not completely.  I have found a protein drink at GNC which is tolerable so I am starting to get in more protein.  I think I am about to turn the corner!

I have clothes in sizes 28 to 20,  Right now I am in 22 and 24 pants.  Of course, sweaters and such can be worn for a long time after they are too big.  My bedroom looks like a clothing explosion.  Every time I get dressed I have to try on umpteen things to find what fits and goes together.  I am really grateful for this problem!
