100 lbs Lost!

Jun 13, 2009

While I don't post on this site very much, I do read the message boards frequently and have learned alot from it.  I do feel the urge to post today because I am very excited to finally hit the 100lbs lost mark!  I still have a hard time picturing myself as the person I am today physically.  People have called me "skinny" and I still think to myself...you can't be talking about me!  I am very happy with my new body and have adjusted nicely to my new eating habits.  I started this journey in a size 24 and am now wearing a size 12.  For my ideal BMI, I would like to lose another 30lbs.

6 Weeks Post Op

Dec 03, 2008

Well, Tuesday was my six week surgiversary.  So far everything seems to be going well.  I have only gotten sick once from eating too much at one time.  I haven't had any side effects or complications (knock on wood). I actually find it difficult to get in enough protein, fluid and calories in each day.  I am never hungry, so I have to remember to eat every 2-3 hours to try to get all my protein in each day.  I go back to work next week and I'm a little worried that I will forget to eat since I don't seem to be hungry at all.  I have lost 32lbs so far....is this a normal amount?  Am I losing slower than most?

Waiting on Insurance Approval

Well, I have finally completed all of the pre-surgey testing and my case was submitted to the insurance company yesterday.  So now I'm at the mercy of the insurance company!  How stressful!

Still Taking the Steps

Jul 16, 2008

So I have finally completed all of the pre-operative requirements.  In the process was diagnosed with sleep apnea, a small hiatal hernia and gastric reflux...who knew?!!  My last medical weight management appointment is on August 4th.  After that my case will be submitted for insurance approval.  I'm hoping to have surgery in October.  Even though I still have some people in my life who have concerns about me having this surgery, I continue to feel more confident in my decision.  Everyone that I've spoken to that have gone through the surgery say that they would do it again in a heartbeat despite complications.

Just learning all the different parts to this site!    I am currently in the midst of scheduling and completing all of the tests that my surgeon has ordered.  My sleep study is this Thursday (really looking forward to sleeping in a strange room with someone watching me all night while I am hooked to a bunch of wires....what happens if you can't sleep under these conditions? :)

Anyway, psych eval is scheduled for 7/2.  Upper GI, EKG and pulmonary function tests on 6/16.

I am surprised by alot of reactions that I have been receiving from friends and colleages.  Most people are trying to talk me out of doing this fearing that I will always have medical problems and complications.
