UGH!

Oct 08, 2010

I am five days out from the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) and am having a most HORRID time with post op gas.  I've walked n walked n walked, tried different positioning, I've even had my mom lightly beat on my back, thinking along the same lines of burping a baby.

Anyone have any suggestions???

Anticipation...

Jul 24, 2010

Ok so this coming Monday will be two weeks since my case was submitted to insurance for review and consideration.  I am excited and a little scared at this point, because I know I already have a pending precert number from talking to my insurance.  Yes, I know the 'pending' part means it can still be denied, but I won't even consider that.  I took the time to get my GYN's office to fax material to Dr McGill's office because I know the gastric sleeve requires medical necessity in addition to the regular approval.  My talk with my WLS surgeon is what prompted me to decide on the sleeve, because he explained that after the Roux-en-Y you tend to have issues with adhesions, and I already know from my surgeries for endo and PCOS that I already have an issue with adhesions.  It is bad enough that I almost became an open case when having my gall bladder removed and even had to have a 2nd surgeon to assist.

So this is where things stand now, and I will post more once I hear something from either my insurance or Dr McGill!

Frustrating

Jul 01, 2010

I am more than a bit frustrated at the moment...  my surgeon has everything packed and ready to submit to ins for approval (which he says will take approx 4wks) except my psych clearance.  When I called the dr's ofc, I was told one thing (that the dr had had to go out of town and it wasn't completed yet, but the receptionist (that happens to be the dr's wife) would try to light a fire under him, but when a friend that used to be an employee for the dr asked him about it, she was told by the dr himself that he had sent it hard copy to the surgeon by snail mail....  WHY IN THE WORLD would you send something by friggin SNAIL MAIL in this electronic age?!?!?!?!?!?   Last I hear from the surgeon, who seems to be most awesome, he still has seen no sign of said report.  I think maybe I should just go to the psychologist's office and get a sealed copy to take to the surgeon myself.  I mean, jeez louise this stupid paper is all that is standing between me and getting my surgery scheduled and done....

Getting there...

May 19, 2010

I am getting down to the last few things and closer to my 6th month nutritional counseling with my pcp.  Besides my pcp that got me started on this journey, my gyn, the bariatric surgeon, and the pulmonologist have all made a big deal over how much I will benefit from this surgery.  Right now, I am oooooohhhhhh sooooo ready.  I am on two different bp meds and at this point still have times where it is still far too high to be healthy and I am staying tachycardic more often than not, despite the calcium channel blocker.

I attend the exercise class tomorrow afternoon, see the dietitian and attend the nutritional class next Tuesday, then see my pcp and Dr McGill next month; after squeezing a 2nd appt with the psychologist, that will cover all the requirements between ins and the surgeon.  Dr McGill said it generally takes about 4wks to get approval once everything is submitted to insurance.  He also said my thinking having it in July/August is reasonable.

I am hoping I won't roast so much after all this.  Right now I freeze my poor mom to death, even getting it as cold as about 63 in the apt b/c I am roasting so bad even the insides of my elbows and back of my knees are sweating. :|  NOT my idea of fun!!

I will write more once I know more!
