Plateau

Jun 25, 2014

In all honesty its been eons since I have been on here.  I'm just slightly over 18 months out from my band to bypass revision surgery and overall pleased with my success but starting to become frustrated.  In total since I initially had my lap band surgery in July of 2011 and then my band to bypass surgery in December 2012 I've gone from 260lbs to my current weight of 167.  I have been stuck at 167 now for at least 7 months and no amount of exercise, food tracking switching things up will budge that number. What on earth is going on? Am I destined to be at this weight for the rest of my life? I'm in a clothes size 9/10 which isn't all that bad but I really would like to drop another 20-25lbs to be at a weight that I feel comfortable with.  Any suggestions, tips? I'm also extremely panicky about regain as I know that at the 18-24 month mark you stop bypassing a lot of your food.  I'm very cautious about my eating habits and do not want regain in any way shape or form.

4 weeks post-op Band to RNY

Jan 08, 2013

So, tomorrow I will be 4 weeks post-op.  I had my band to RNY revision on 12/12. My starting weight was 234.9 and currently I am 216. I'm pretty thrilled that I've managed to lose that although I have to be honest, I was hoping for a bit more at this point.  I know everyone is different and some people lose faster than others. My doctor advised that usually with a lower starting weight you lose slower and my boyd is already used to dieting so its not really shocked into crazy weight loss. I feel good, was back to the gym pretty quickly, by the second week but no weights over 7lbs for at least another 2 weeks. Its a lot of work to get in enough protein and water during the day but I'm pretty close.  I can manage about 1/4 cup of food at a time without much trouble and will progress to more solid foods next week.  I haven't been experimenting much with the mushy stuff, mostly eggs, pureed chili, and tuna. I'm a pretty picky eater.

Does anyone have any recipes they can suggest? I've been searching online for low-fat/low carb and high protein recipes. I have found some on www.skinnyms.com which are pretty yummy sounding.  Also, does anyone remember what the maxium grams of sugar/carbs are allowed per day? I'm referring to natural sugars that we find in fruit and stuff.

Hope all is well for everyone out there!

Revision-band to rny bypass

Sep 25, 2012

Hello all-

I decided to set up and start myself on this site.  I had the lap band placed in July of 2011 and after much struggle and frustration have decided I want to do a revision. My new surgeon agrees it would be a great option for me and stated he never would have recommended the lap band for me. I have had a complete thyroidectomy and have a very slow metabolism.  They feel that the malabsorption will be a great benefit for me.  I have already started the process with a new surgeon who does the revision (my original surgeon only does the lap band).  I have had no issues with the band per se, however; I have not been able to lose more than 30lbs. I have been at the same weight for over 6months now or within a lb or 2. My new surgeon has sent me for all the required tests, labs, EKG, Upper GI and I just and an endoscopy and all looks great.  I'll follow up with my surgeon on Monday and I'm hoping to get a surgery date at that point.  I am a bit nervous about the insurance approval.  My insurance only pre requirements were a BMI of 35 or over with at least 1 co-morbidity or a BMI of 40 or over.  I'm still well within the BMI requirements, I'm just really anxious they won't approve it. They approved my lap band surgery with no issues at all.

I'm hearing different stories about the RNY Bypass and it seems that most if not all lose around 30-40 lbs within the first month or 2. Is this typical? Any problems after revision for anyone? I considered a DS but there are no surgeons in my state that perform this particular surgery.
