It's a long one, but here's the gist: I had Lap-Band in Dec. 2001; was a model citizen from 2001-2003, down 65 lbs... in 2003, experienced a severe slippage so doc went back in to fix; then in mid-2004, I got pregnant. had a normal pregnancy (only 40 lbs. gained), but in 2005-06, started experiencing problems again (possibly due to pregnancy, but who knows for sure?). In May 2007, upper-GI showed a major dilatation, which made Band removal mandatory. A revision was recommended; I had hoped to be approved for a sleeve gastrectomy, but insurance would only cover RNY. I was reticent at first, but after my surgery on 11/13/2007, I am already so, so pleased with the results and how I feel. Surgeon had also discovered a severe abdominal hernia, so I was a walking time bomb anyway! I've set my goals high and looking forward to achieving them all with this new lease on life.
