NOT THAT BAD....

Oct 31, 2008

So, I went in for the scope yesterday, and it really was no big deal.  It was an outpatient procedure, you go get a gown on, and you can leave everything from the waist down on, you get hooked up to an IV, they wheel you into the room, make you swallow some icky stuff, put a mouth piece in, give you the anesthetic, and the next thing you know you are waking up in the recovery room.  They told me that it takes all of about 10 minutes once you are out to do the whole thing.  Dr. Joyce did find a stricture and used a balloon to stretch it out about 12mm, and I am happy to say that I was able to eat 2 eggs and 1 1/2 pieces of bacon at lunch today. (and I kept it down :) ).  I think that I am on my way to getting my protein and water in like I am supposed to.

The Good and the Bad

Oct 27, 2008

SO I will start with the bad in that I will be having he scope on Thursday.  ALthough at this point I almost welcome the procedure if it will just let me eat.  Sound funny doesn't it, but I am not wanting to eat lots of food, just let me the food that I ought to be.  I lost almost 5 pounds over he weekend, while that in most cases would be a good thing, in this case it isn't.

The good,  I finally found a recipe that works for my McDonald Iced Coffee, while it doesn't have the protein, at least I can use it for my liquid intake.

Christy's Version of McDonald's Iced Coffee

Decaffeinated Coffee, let it cool down
Add SF French Vanilla Creamer
Add Ice

YUMMY  it probably has a total of 25 calories per 8 oz, so well worth it, and at this point the calories I am getting is at least something considering the stricture issue.

Finally, I decided that once I reach 199, I am going to get my hair colored for a fun change for the winter.  My appointment is for November 8, so I better get moving for that 11 pounds.

Fun WOW moment, my fingers are shrinking, my rings are rolling around like crazy now.  Just may have to have hubby upgrade my wedding set when I reach my goal.....can I just say BLING BLING:)

I made the crock pot fajitas this weekend, and my son loved it, he was quite a little piggy last night. And let me tell you, he can afford to be a little piggy, he is such a little peanut, but I really think that he is almost ready for a growth spurt.  Will it be up or in girth I don't know.

Crock Pot Fajitas,

4 boneless skinless chicken breast
refried beans
1 packet of taco seasoning
1 jar of salsa

take the chicken, place in the bottom of the crockpot
sprinkle the taco seasoning over the chicken
spread the refried beans over the chicken
pour salsa over everything
Let cook low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours

The chicken will shred easily, you can serve it on soft tortilla shells, add some cheese for added protein.

I think that I might get some enchilada sauce next time, dip the shells in the sause, and add the fajita mixture, assemble the "enchiladas" place in baking dish, pour remaining enchilada sause over everything, place cheese on that and bake for awhile.

Doctor Visit

Oct 24, 2008

So I called the doctor's office on Wednesday to inform them of my issues with eating lately.  I am sick and tired of experiencing a meal twice .  I thought that it might be because my stomach is producing a lot of acid, and maybe what i am experiencing is acid reflux, so I was calling to get more pepcid.

Cherrish, nurse, was concerned that it might be a stricture and again reminded me that no dairy products for 2 months after surgery....oops.  I forgot about that.  She was a gem though, and wanted me to come in today to see Dr. Joyce.

Dr. Joyce also is concerned that it may be a stricture, so they are going to schedule a scope for next Thursday, but in the meantime I will be taking pepcid twice a day per Dr. Joyce.  I am really hoping that will fix the problem and I won't need the scope, and he told me to keep him posted, if the issue goes away, they can cancel the procedure.  I guess that it is quite common for strictures to occur at this stage of recovery, I really hope that it isn't a stricture.  Pray for me that pepcid makes my problem go away.

Progress

Oct 20, 2008

I have to say that this weekend was probably the best one for my little family of four (I say four, because we have to include our favorite canine-Kaci)

As you all know, we have been having some difficulty with our present sewage disposal method (the old mine shaft method), well the neighbor was able to open that up, so we have been living at home.  However, after having the soil analysis done, we have been instructed that our only method of private sewage disposal is to use a mechanical unit and an evaporation bed.  YUCK!!!

So we decided that we would try to eke out our old method by treating our pipe with copper sulfate which will kill any roots that get into the pipe, that is our arch enemy right now.  We are considering putting a sump pit in, but nothing is written in stone right now.

Friday afternoon, I spend some time on the recipe board again, and found some good recipes for me and my family.  You will find the recipe I used yesterday for my family.  But the part that was so exciting was going to the grocery store, getting fresh foods and paying less than what I would normally spend on a carb loaded grocery cart....who knew!!

DH, DS and I went to Farm and Fleet on Saturday, forgetting that Toy land opened, but AJ was a good boy, and we happened across this new Elmo doll that is virtually life like.  It tells jokes and stories and plays games with your little one, and gives hugs and tells you ELMO LOVES YOU, and blows kisses.  When we let AJ see it, he actually sat down in the cart and played with him, and hugged and kissed Elmo.  There was no leaving that store without Elmo going home with us.  We went home, and AJ was playing very well, and took a nap, then his girlfriend Cassie came over to play.  We went outside and took a long walk together, with Kaci too, in the farm field behind our house and hunted for golf balls.  AJ did go to the neighbors to play for awhile while DH and I went to an Anniversary dinner for DH's Sister.

The only part of the weekend that sort of made me mad was ordering dinner Sat. Night.  I explained that I was a bypass patient, and only wanted to order the piece of fish.  Now the entree comes with soup or salad and a baked potato.....normally 7.99.  The waitress said that would be fine, they would work up a price for me.  I paid 6.99 for a piece of fish (ERRRR).  I know they could of easily said the price is the price, but it was annoying none the less.

Well, we left early from the dinner, to run an errand to K-mart, again, AJ was such a good little guy that day, that when I came across a pair of Elmo slippers, DH was first to say, AJ needs those slippers.  SO again Elmo went home with us.

I have to add, that this weekend was the first weekend in years that DH and I slept in the same bed!!!!  I am still wearing my CPAP at night, but it must be a whole lot less noisy than when I was snoring.  Oh and DH was awesome sat. morning by letting me sleep til almost 8 am and taking care of AJ.  I was up for a few hours with him during the night, but ....And I was able to lay down for awhile on Sun morning too.  I didn't sleep then, but I just loved my guy for helping with AJ in the morning two days in a row.

We even watched that pathetic attempt of a football game between Chicago and Minnesota together as a family.  We taught AJ how to make the TD sign, and he was just cheering like crazy.

We ended the weekend by enjoying a Faux Rotisserie Chicken which turned out great, I highly recommend this recipe for the cooking impaired (I include myself in this category)

Faux Rotisserie Chicken
3-4 pound chicken
small onion
small lemon
your choice of seasonings, I used Montreal Chicken Seasoning by McCormick
5-6 balls made of aluminum foil and placed at the bottom of the crock pot. Spray with nonstick spray the inside of the crock pot.
Rinse thoroughly the outside and the inside of the chicken.
Thoroughly season the inside and outside of the chicken with your preferred spices.
Place the lemon and onion inside the cavity of the chicken.
Place the chicken on top of the aluminum foil balls and cook low 8 hours or high 4-5 hours.
It tastes just like the rotisserie chicken you can buy at the store for a whole lot less money.

3.  I was able to wear an XL sweatshirt today that I haven't worn in 8
      years.

Since I can't buy clothes.....

Oct 14, 2008

DH and I got to go on our annual Covered Bridge Bus Trip yesterday.  I was gonna try to be so good yesterday, and be very frugal in my purchases......oy vay that went out the window at the first booth I came to with purses.

I ended up buying 3 purses, count em 3.  Now mind you I am generally a jeans and sweatshirts gal, but for some reason, I justified my purse purchasing to the fact that right now I am not buying any new clothes.  I know that it doesn't make sense right now.  I am sure that in a couple of more weeks, I am going to HAVE to go to a second hand store to pick up a pair or two of blue jeans.  My jeans right now require me to pull them up frequently during the day.

I love my purses, I had bought one for my friend JoJo last year for taking care of my son, and I coveted that knock off Kate Spade bag so much that I got one in blues this year.

I also bought a winter quilt for my son's room this year too, My husband goes bananas at Christmas time in the living room, so I have purchased a few small items for the bathroom (i.e. shower curtain with snowmen), and now the quilt for AJ's room.

Our neighbors were able to get the septic line opened yesterday.  I was so excited to be able to go home and sleep in my own bed.  We are still going to put a septic system in at our house, but at least now, I think that we may be able to stay home for the majority of the time they are working on things.

I am in the mood to make some ice cream.  I tried the pumpkin ice cream over the weekend, but I didn't have graham crackers and the soy chips I had just got soggy, try try again.

I am also going to make little mini wheat tortilla pizzas for AJ and I for supper, I just love Eggy, she had the best recipes.

I also found dried peas at the Festival yesterday.  They are so yummy, crunchy, and good for you.  I sort of feel like I am having peanuts or chips when eating them.  I can't wait to try the Edamame.  AJ and I just might have to take a trip to Trader Joes.

I am going to have to wait until tomorrow night to try another ice cream concoction, I will let you know which one I decide to try.

Weight Loss, I am only 3 pounds from goal for Halloween.  I am hoping to make goal by next weekend!!!!!
