Losing Weight

Feb 21, 2012

I had my surgery December 30, 2011.  Dr. Garth Davis had an opening after my insurance was approved on Dec 27 and it all happened so quick.  But I had been prepared for 4 months anyway.  I went into the hospital at my all time high of 252.  Now on February 21 I weigh 218 a total lost of 34lbs in almost 2 months.  I am just not sure if that is average or a lot.  I go and see him for my 2 month checkup tomorrow.

I feel great.  I definitely don't enjoy eating anymore which is a good thing.  I just eat to live.  I started taking my son to a pediatric weight management program at Herman hospital every Saturday.  We have gone for 3 weeks now.  He has lost 6lbs since January too.  He is only 11, but definitely overweight too.

Thanks to all of my friends and supporters.

My Story

Oct 05, 2011

Hi,

I wanted to share a little about myself and I am finding this very hard to do.  I used to think of myself as a very goal oriented high achieving person.  Well I must be because I did go to college and I do have a great job.  So what happened?  Let's see, at 10, my mom told me to quit eating the donuts from the store next door or I'd be fat.  My dad told me when I was 8 to quit eating so much chicken and so fast or I'd be fat. When I was 18 my mom told me to quit eating the cake or I'd be fat.  Well I only weighed 123lbs and was 5'6" tall.  At age 30 I weighed 150lbs and decided that I must be fat and needed to go to the Dr. and have him prescribe diet pills.  I probably spent 3 years on them, didn't lose much weight, but they did help me study late at night for my bachelor's degree.  Well, I then stayed between 150 and 170 until I was 40 years old.  At that time I met my now husband and we decided to have a baby together.  I gained 70 lbs.  After I had my son in 2001, I decided that I needed more diet pills to take off the weight.  No, that wasn't right since I was nursing so I went to Weight Watchers and lost 8lbs.  So I decided to train for the Houston Marathon, surely that would help me lose weight.  I crossed the finish line in January of 2002 weighing 205lbs.  That is a lot of weight to carry 8 hours and 10 mins.  Then in June of the same year I finished the Danskin Triathlon in Austin still weighing over 200lbs.  So then I decided to go and get more diet pills and this time from ordering them online.

What a mess I made of my metabolism.  The answer was always outside of myself and unachievable.  Now that I am 50 years old, I am going to start a new life with a new smaller stomach, stay away form the "pills", and rely on my support groups and your help to stay on track.  I am one nutrition visit and one psych visit away from Dr. Miranda submitting my insurance, wish me luck!!
