I am a 46 year old white male 5'8" and pre surgery weight of 305. It has been almost 7 weeks since my surgery (10/16/2006) and have lost 50lbs as of today 12/2/2006. The weight problem begain about 15 years ago and has gradually got to the point to where my life was very unplesant. My Doctor diagnosed me with Diabetes about 6 years ago and it had got to where my glucose was about 225 on a good day and maybe 400 to 500 on not such a good day. I was taking 2000 mg of Glucophage, 8 mg of Avandia, 4 mg of Glucatrol, and 2 injections a day. My GrandPa died at age 54 from diabetes and it looked as if I was heading down the same road. That is when I decided to do the Gastric Bypass surgery. After loosing about 40lbs along with some exercise I have been medication free for about 2 weeks now. I also suffered from Sleep Apnea and had to use a CPAP machine at night and quit useing it about the same time as I quit taking my diabetic medicine

If anyone has any questions about the surgery or the first few weeks afterwards Please ask me and I will tell you what I have went threw. Or if you have had the Bypass Surgery and want to give me some advice that I may need further down the road I would also love to hear from you as my surgery was in Dallas, Tx and I live about 160 miles from there and it is to far to go for the support group meetings.
