Okay I have not made a comment here for a LONG time

Dec 31, 2008

I had my surgery on May 27, 2008. I can say it was the BEST choice I think I ever made. I don't know how typical I am as to the way the surgery went, nor as to the recovery. Let me say, there was virtually no pain. I had some minor discomfort with the drain, but other than that, the nurses had me up and walking the halls as soon as I was capable.

The first night - I walked about 1/2 mile (17 times around the hall makes 1 mile on the floor I was on). By the end of my stay I was stomping out 1-2 miles. It helped with the boredom of being in the hospital.

My success has been due to my own determination and the support of my family and friends. Now here I am out seven months since surgery and have lost over 90# and probably next week will be over 100#. I have not bought any new clothes yet, partly because I am fitting into some that I had from the upward gain I had made, and partly because of the desire to loose about 20# more. I have had some altered (had to because I did the Benny Hill out at the mail box). Upon seeing my pants fall down around my knees, my neighbor suggested I was a good think I wear underware  HAHAH!

I am walking 2-5 miles per day and now am considering staying about that length of walking - but increasing the tempo.

Will post a new pic soon.

Started the process

Sep 11, 2007

Met with my doc today. He is in agreement with my assessment...
I better do something now while I am "healthy" because it will not be so easy later (when I start having complications).

He asked the Bariatric Clinic to get in touch with me - so I can begin the process with them. Materials, questionaire(s) etc.

Then a meeting, more assessment as to whether I am a likely candidate for the process. I'm sure you all have been there.

I'm hoping to hear more from others who can give me advice. If you send me a note - I will answer - if you offer to talk to me via phone - I would love to do that also.  Talked with Dan E. he was a very nice person and offered me some very good insight.

My reseach seems to be at an end

Sep 10, 2007

I have read exhaustively many comments and profiles on this site.

I have several friends who have personally had bariatric surgery (none have had the lap-band).

I think for my own personal desire and level of comfort, I will choose the lap-band treatment.

Tomorrow, I will be contacting my own physician (we talked some before regarding this) and ask him to arrange a consultation and get this adventure rolling. (oops a pun)

The one thing I do know is this, my body tries to tell me I have limitations, my mind does not see me the way I am but the way I "want to be" right now.

I get frustrated at the little limitations - like how hard it is to tie my shoes, get down on the floor to pick up, clean up etc. and the work it takes to get back up.  I still climb up and jump down sometimes.

When I think about the incredible force on my joints at my present weight I shudder to think what could happen to a bone somewhere in there.

I am still in reasonably good shape and strong as a bull (maybe full of 'bull' too) so my ultimate hope is to become about 52% less of the man I am today as far as my circumference and mass is concerned.

More to come ...
