Hey All! My name is Laura and I am 37 years old. I am 5'2 and as of December of 08 I was 225 and my highest with my second baby was 252. I have not been HEAVY my whole life but since I was pregnant with my first at the age of 17 I have really had a problem. When I got pregant I was about 130lbs and went all the way up to 210 and after I had the baby I went up to 217. Life at the time was very trying. I had run away from a good home due to a broken heart from my break-up with my high shool sweetheart and ended up in the arms of a guy who was just not capable of taking care of anyone let alone himself. So being young with a baby with no money you by the foods you can afford! CARBS! When my daughter was 2 I left my husband and moved in with my mommy (yes my mommy. I love her to death!) So about a year of living with my mom I had dropped about 50lbs and met my current husband. This was about 17 years ago. I was 21 and he was 19. We dated for 7 years until we got engaged and I went up to about 210 during those 7 years and then went down to 145lbs the year before we got married. The day I got married I was 156lbs. But that did not last to long. I then started creeping up the next 2 years to about 190lbs and then got pregnant with our first child (he is almost 7) and with that pregancy I went up to 238 and after I had him I went down to 220. After he was born I went into the local RN program to become a registered nurse which any of you who are nurses no it is no easy thing. My highest in school was 230 and then I went on to weight watchers before graduation and got down to 214. Well after graduation and getting my first job at a hospital I got pregnant with our 2nd child (she is now 2) and went from 214 to 228. Which was wonderful. I was so scared of gaining a lot of weight but I was working the 12 hour over night shifts which probably helped keep my weight down. Well I had her and I had since kept my weight down to 220-225. I have always been self consious of my weight. I have always been the heaviest/chunky one in the family and I always felt yucky in my own skin. I remember losing all the weight before my wedding and how great I felt in a pair of jeans and then energy I had that I wanted that feeling back so bad! With me as a floor nurse in a hospital working 12 hour shifts can be very trying on your legs, hips, back and just about your whole body that I knew I had do just once and for all take control of this disease. Diabetics use insulin to control their sugar, astmatics use maintenace inhalers to help breathe and then there are those that are obese that need a tool to help lose and control their weight. SO that is what I have now down. I am currently down 26lbs and I already feel wonderful. I am so excited with what the next year will bring! And to all that are thinking about having the surgery I can only say that I wanted this so bad and the only fear I had was that I would live the rest of my life in pain, exhausted and feeling ugly and I can honestly say I already feel like a million bucks! Just remember do what is best for you. Make your choice based on what you can live with. Weather it is surgery or no surgery do what is going to make you happy long term! GOOD LUCK!!!!
