16 weeks.

Dec 01, 2010

Made it through Thanksgiving week.  We had two Thanksgivings, one on the Sunday before with my family and the other on Thanksgiving Day with my wife's family.   I lost over 3.5 lbs this week.  Heh, that is a first.  For my meals I had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, ham, carmelized pineapples, corn and gravy.  I even had pecan pie, cheesecake, pumpkin pie and a fruit tart.  Of course each was only a bite or two, but I didn't feel the slightest bit deprived.  I really do love this tool.

14 weeks today...

Nov 14, 2010

Not one minute of regret.

I did have my very first real problem with food yesterday.  I made beef fajitas and ate about half of one.  About 15 minutes after I was done eating, I was experiencing pretty sever uncomfortableness,  After another 10 minutes or so, I had the dreaded foamies and soon realized I could not keep the food down.  First time since surgery that I actually had to regurgitate something I ate.  Not sure if it was the beef, the tortilla or maybe the jalapeno, but something didn't sit well with me.  Otherwise, I have had uncomfortableness and some pain after eating the wrong thing a few times though really not very often.  That type of episode is always accompanied by the foamies, but I've always gotten through it with little real discomfort.  Not so yesterday.

Otherwise things are going very well.  I am down to size 44 pants (from 52) and really could be in a 42 in jeans.  I have lost over half the weight I need to lose to meet goal.  Back in February I was at my highest weight that I ever saw...348.6 lbs.  Today I am 266.1 lbs.  I have lost 82.5 lbs and have "only" 81.1 lbs to go.  Big WOW moment for me.

I am scheduled to have my 3 month Dr. appt on Thursday where they will discuss the results of my first post-op blood screening.  Hopefully all is well.  I have noticed I have lost a tremendous amount of muscle mass as well as fat, but my strength doesn't appear to be affected too much.  I NEED to start working out though.  Other than walking almost everyday and doing things around the house, I get little exercise.  Need to work on changing that.

4 weeks out, plus 2 days...

Sep 08, 2010

I just could not do the pureed foods.  I have begun to eat soft foods that I chew the heck out of.  Some thinks that work well for me are homemade Turkey Chili with lots of beans.  Baked cheese lasagna with zucchini instead of noodles.  I just sliced the zucchini thin and used it like a lasagna noodle.  Any kind of cheese appears to be just fine.  Tuna salad is fine,    cod fish is not.  I actually made an apple/blueberry pie that is very pouch friendly for me.  I used apples, blueberries, a little lemon juice, apple cider and just a very thin lattice top crust.  It was perfect and I didn't even miss the sugar.  Chobani greek yogurt is really good.  Lots of protein and the fruit kinds don't give me problems.  Some things that don't work for me.  Beef meatballs.  I made them real soft, but they don't digest well for me at all.  almost anything pureed.  I can't stand the texture.  Lobster Bisque did not sit well with me at all.

Just went through an 8 day stall.  8 days and I maybe lost a pound.  The past 2 days I have lost well over a pound each day.  I have noticed my muscles are starting to get soft so I need to start exercising.  I walk everyday, but nothing for my upper body.  That will change today.

Still feeling well.  No other problems that i can think of.

18 days out...

Aug 26, 2010

So far , so good.  No problems at all yet.  I am walking 2+ miles a day, getting my vitamins and protein in everyday, I've been back at work for over a week and as of this morning I weighed EXACTLY 300 lbs.  As happy as I am with losing 25+ lbs since surgery AND no longer being classified as "morbidly obese", couldn't it have read 299.something?  Heh, I know tomorrow I will be there, its just my first milestone so i can't wait..

I have a picnic to go to this weekend.  I am making my "famous" potato salad that everyone seems to love.  No one wanted me to bring anything, but i would have felt funny if I didn't so I volunteered.  I am still on nothing but liquids, but I am so tempted to bring some pureed food to eat there.  Something like baked ricotta, mozzerella and sauce.  Yesterday I tried cauliflower with feta and a bit of milk all pureed up.  It was like mashed potatoes and tasted wonderful.  I ate 4 bites over about 20 minutes, each about 1/3 teaspoon.  I was feeling a heaviness in my chest, so I assumed I was full.  It really helped because I have been really hungry lately.  That is all I had and it really hit the spot.  No issues at all.  I am supposed to start pureed foods next Wednesday, but I really needed something.  I will try to lay off until Wednesday (except, possibly, for this weekend), just in case.  I really want to avoid problems.  If anyone has any different advise, please let me know.  I might post about this on the forum just in case.
