This process is moving along faster than I expected it too!! I have a "potential" date set for surgery, October 25th, 2011!! It is at an MTF so it could eaily change, especially with all this Hurricane business going on. BUT I AM EXCITED!! I had my EGD done a few weeks ago and found out I have a Hiatal hernia, so I have opted to go with the Rou En Y instead of the sleeve. I completed my ShipShape program, and have my endocrinologists approval. Waiting on psych evaluation (eek! hope I am not crazy!) and nephrologist approval. So far its going good! Hope these 2 months fly by!!

So I had my appointment with my surgeon and he thinks I am a great candidate for the sleeve!! I was so worried with it being military that they would do whatever they wanted but he really seems to be including me in the decision process. So I have to meet with my nutritionalist and start the "ship-shape" program (hahaha I am assuming the Navy Clinic is trying to have a sense a of humour) which is 8 weeks of good stuff I am sure. I have to go in today and have a bunch of bloodwork done. My surgeon, Dr. Carlos Godinez Jr., says it will be between 5 to 7 months until I have the surgery but I am just SO happy to have the ball finally rolling in the right direstion. I am praying that everything goes well from here on out!!

I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT MAY 16TH TO SEE ABOUT THE SLEEVE!!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!.. but trying not to get my hopes up too much!

I found out yesterday that they do the sleeve at NASJAX. I got excited and then about 5 min in to our conversation she asks how old I am (even though I KNOW its on the referral). I told her 24. She said they won't do it unless I am 26. So I called the patient advocate and told her my diabetes is progressing quickly, I just had my blood pressure medicine AND my insulin doubled, and my kidney function is declining. She is going to talk to the surgeons personally and see if she can pull some strings. We will see where it goes from here. I really want the sleeve, and don't want to settle on the band.

Just found out my Insurance won't cover the sleeve and my only option is a bypass or band.. or nothing.
