Congratulations on your surgery date! I have some Zen Wisdom for you - Nothing exists but momentarily...One thing flows into another...observe things as they are, let everything go as it goes. This is to put everything under control in its widest sense. --- May God keep you close to his side as you travel your new journey. You will have ups and downs. You can always turn to us, your AMOS family, we will give support, comfort and encouragement. You will find this will be the best thing you could ever have done for yourself as well as your family. I know that was true for me. Keep us posted when you reach the "other" side. I pray for a speedy and easy recovery for you. Don’t forget to update your profile at least monthly. We all like to see how we are doing!!! Make sure you take pictures. It’s great to see the new you emerge!!! Not to mention the look on YOUR face when you look at those pictures and compare them in a few months! It’ll be a BIG WOW!!! Please remember too, that this is a *tool* to use. Make sure you use it wisely. The first year it’s pretty easy, after that I’ve been hearing (I’m not speaking from experience as I’m not a year out yet) that it gets increasingly difficult. Hi Kim good luck with your orientation.Try to get there early, they give out numbers and if you are 1 or 2 you could possibly see the surgeon the next day. I had my orientation on July 6th and seen the surgeon July 7th. I am now waiting to see the medical clearnace doctor and exercise specialist and I need to lose 10 pounds my next appointment with Dr Carlin is August 27th and I hope to have a surgery date then. I'm going to try to keep this up. Mostly to remind myself, as I go along, that every step I take, no matter how small takes me closer to my goal.... In the winter of 2002, I was given a consult date with Dr. Carl Nohr in Medicine Hat Alberta for March 10 2004. JUST A CONSULT!!! Eeesh! 2 years was a long time to wait. I'd be busy in those two years; at that time I had a busy little 9 month old and would "pop" out another in October 2003. Then came my first Bump in the road...we moved to another province! Now, my journey has begun again. I had to cancel my consult with the surgeon in Alberta, (I was devistated), and start looking for a surgeon in Ontario. If I thought for a moment the wait was long for Dr. Nohr, I was a fool! 3-6 years here! And to add insult to injury...there were no surgeons who did the RNY procedure accepting patients in Ontario. GASP!! May 11/04 Here is my latest...I have applied for Out-of-Country approval to go to Detroit(30 minutes away!)to have surgery done by Dr. Jeffery Genaw at Henry Ford Hospital. Although luck may not be on my side since my PCP could not say that I would die or that I had measurable tissue damage and that is a pre rec. for approval. I will keep my fingers crossed anyway since I'm also hoping to be approved due to the sheer lack of available surgeons... After I sent my application in last week, I found out that Dr. Yau in Toronto was again accepting patients. I had my PCP send in a referal anyway. Better safe than sorry. I'd love it if I could have it sooner than later (States side) but I've waited so long......What's another couple years! (yikes)
