Kristina M.
Hello, my name is Kristina, I'm 26 years old, and I live in San Diego CA. I am married to a wonderful, loving, and support man named Will; and we have a beautiful daughter Morgan.
I am a Type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at age 20. I am on minimed paradigm real-time insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor, using Novolog insulin. I have always ran 'higher' with my numbers but since having my daughter I have had an ever harder time staying in a target zone.
I have always be a 'bigger' girl, whatever that means. But in the last (almost) year since having my daughter I have gain a whopping 60 lbs! Apparently I have become more insulin resistant, causing me to need to use more insulin, and that has caused me to put a lot of weight on.
On 3/31/2009 I went to my first appointment with my new Endo (who is also a weight management specialist) Dr. Michael Lee with Scripps and he suggested the Lap Band procedure. Of course I had thought about it before I am nearly 300 lbs! But to hear someone else especially a medical professional say that I needed it or it would help really made it... real.
So now we are going forward with it. Apparently I have really good coverage and I'm a perfect candid so that all shouldn't be a problem. I have an appointment to see my dr again in a month, another with a dietitian, and I am making one with a Psychiatrist. I'm still not 100%... I'm at like 85%. I know it'll be the best thing for me and I know where I am now I'm not going to live for another 20 years so yes of course I am going to do it. It is what I need. But I am still so afraid of what could happen.
But I am doing this for not only myself.... but for my MoMo (what I call my daughter). She is my everything and I want to be there for it all. I want to keep up with her, I don't want to embarrass her, and I want her to want to be healthy and take care of her body.
Thank you for reading... Kristina
