Well it’s been a few since my last post. I have successfully completed my consult and my seminar (second time around but that’s ok).
I had my consult with the PA for Dr. Coates office and come to find out Dr. Coats only does the Bypasses and Dr. Coirin does the Lap bands. I was worried that I would have to come back for a different consult with Dr. Coirin’s office but turns out the PA that did my consult does them for both offices. That’s good news too because the lapband consults for Dr. Coirin’s office were booked up until Nov to Mid Nov!
Anyway, the consult went fine. I was worried that I was not heavy enough for the procedure but turns out I’m golden. My BMI was 40.3 and my Blue Cross Prudent Buyer PPO just wants a 40 BMI, Nutritionist and Psyc Evaluation all of which I already have knocked out and been approved.
I have a pre-op session on Wed 10/17/2007 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in Modesto and my surgery date is 05 Nov 2007! I’m still a little worried the insurance will reject the request. I guess the packet was sent today for insurance approval because of a late fax from the Psyc Eval. Dr. They were supposed to get it to Dr. Coirin’s office Friday but couldn’t for whatever reason. It finally made it to them about 2:30 today. I called to make sure they got it and everything was good to go and it finally is. So the wait begins for the insurance approval! Once I get that insurance approval I’m GOLDEN! I can’t wait! It’s very nerve racking waiting for such big news.
I feel great actually. From 100% commitment to getting the procedure on 12 September 2007 and starting the process to getting a surgery date of 05 Nov 2007 it’s been just over 1 month. That is if the insurance approves the procedure. That’s pretty dang good if you ask me!
So, once I get 100% authorization for the procedure Ill post back. From everything I have read online Blue Cross Prudent Buyer PPO in California is pretty fast to approve the procedure. It could take up to 10 days but I think I’ll have the approval by the end of the week.
On a side note, I have woken up 2 of the last 4 nights at about 4:00 am with a crazy pain in my lower back/upper stomach. It’s very odd. I’m sleepy and everything but the pain is not good. I wake up and I can’t tell if its indigestion or what but it sucks balls! I’ll get up and drink some water and have some TUMS then try to sleep on the couch which helps. I think it might be my bed. I rotated the mattress. It’s one of those temperpedics and I think that might be working my lower back over but I don’t know for sure. It’s very strange. I wonder if it’s from being so fat??? Anyway, I hope once I drop some of this God awful extra weight it will go away.
Ok, I’ll post back later on once I get 100% approval from my insurance. If they don’t approve me then I’ll have to find out what I do as appeal. Hopefully I don’t have to get even fatter! I don’t think I can take any more weight than I have now! Ha-ha

I have attended a seminar in Fresno that doesnt count toward the place I am getting the procedure done in Modesto so I have to take the seminar over but thats no biggy.
I have completed the psyc eval and passed, WOOT Im not crazy! hahah
I have completed the nutritionist and she said I was an ideal candidat for the procedure.
My new seminar is scheduled for 10/10/07 at 5:30pm.
My consult is scheduled for the very next day, 10/11/07, at 3:15pm.
I will be seeing Dr. Patrick Coates.
According to feedback from their patients on their web site, Blue Cross PPO Prudent Buyer is very quick at approving the surgery, usually within a matter of days if not hours which is DOPE!
I have the very strong urge to workout but Im worried that if I do work out I will lose weight and no longer qualify for the procedure. Very odd set of mixed emotions.
I CANNOT WAIT to get this procedure done. IM so excited to finally start losing weight and acctually, God forbid, keeping it off. Always with the lose 20 put on 25, lose 10 put on 15 lose 20 put on 30.. over and over and over! Im freakin sick of it! haha
Anyway, Ill post back and update more as soon as I know if my insurance will be covering this procedure. If not then Ill try ebay.com ! hahaha
