I have battled weight my entire lifetime... well since I left the Marine Corps almost 40 years ago. I've tried almost every available diet program from starvation to Atkins to NutriSystem. They all seem to work for a short time, but as we all know, the weight eventually comes back... PLUS a few more pounds each time. My weight usually fluctuates from 225 (on the lighter side) to 265 (on the heavier side). I have been a smoker all these years as well. However, recently, I quit smoking... cold turkey. I knew I would gain weight, but I had no idea at how quick the pounds would add on, nor at just how many pounds that would be. When I topped the scales at over 300 lbs just a couple of months after I stopped smoking, well... that was IT! I knew I had to do something drastic and do something quick. I am now considering lap band surgery. I have read about it, but would love to hear from someone who had already made the journey. Is it worth it? From what I have read, the surgery alone doesn't do the trick. A person needs to be ready to change their diet and exercise also. My question was why pay all the money for the surgery if I have to diet anyway like before? I guess I'm just looking for some quidance here. I would appreciate hearing from anyone on this subject. Should I do it? Should I try something else? HELP ME!
