Surgery 2 weeks ago yesterday

Got through the surgery.  There were times I was wondering if this is really what I needed to do to relieve the pain in my knees and joints. When thinking about all the other things I had done, knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, Synvisc injections in both knees, physical therapy for over 7 months, I thought it was time to think about what all five doctors were telling me:  the only way to relieve the pain is to lose the weight.

I have been in the real estate business for over 18 years and this latest mortgage/appraisal mess has made it difficult to earn a living.  I love my clients, the work, and "know what I'm doing," but it is too difficult to overcome the lack of confidence of the community right now.  So, I decided to go into the nursing field.  My passion is to help people.  I have volunteered with different groups over the years and this has been the most fulfilling area of my life.  So, I decided that nursing would provide that outlet to satisfy my need to make a difference, helping others, being appreciated.  Then I thought about those 12 hour+ shifts, lots of walking and stress, and said to myself, "You need to get your knees working better in order to do the work."

So, now I've had the surgery.  Am starting to lose the weight. Have completed 6 months of education toward my nursing goal.  I'm still in a bit of discomfort from the surgery.  Not really pain, just "pinches" inside my stomach.  Uncomfortable turning in different positions.  My knees still hurt right now but it is probably because I have been not doing much after the surgery.  It's time to start walking now (I think) to get my knees feeling better.  Two of the incisions have healed and the other three are coming along.  Still just eating the shakes, broth, jello, hot tea, water.  Trying to wait until my next appointment at the end of July before I change the eating up any different, even though my doctor said I can switch to soft foods after 2 weeks.  Somehow it seems that the longer I wait to begin many soft foods and get fully healed inside, the better.  If anyone thinks differently, let me know.  I feel like I'm going a bit by "the seat of my pants" and my ideas may be wrong.  So, I am planning to go for a nice walk on the beach today.
