My Weight Loss Journey
In November of 2011, I decided that something very significant needed to change in my life. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was very blue that day. I remember not being able to move very well and my legs and feet ached until the point that I could not stand up more than a few minutes without having to sit down. My breathing was also labored and had been for some time but I had just ignored it. My feet and legs were swollen to the point where I could not find any shoes to fit my feet. Taking a shower was a task and required extra time to ensure that I did not slip and fall. I no longer could fit in the bathtub so that was an issue in itself. My size was a 3X and I weighed a whopping 351 Lbs. I had literally reached a point in my life in which I did not feel like living anymore. After talking to my aunt on the phone, she had suggested I check into Bariatric surgery. I did and below are the events that have lead up to me having Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery (RNY) on 9-6-12.
· 2-22-12 – My 1st meeting/weight loss discussion with my surgeon, Dr. Glenn F. Strickland. We discussed my health, eating habits and different surgeries that would fit me. My insurance company required a 6 month supervised weight loss class, a psych evaluation, endoscopy and sleep study before I could have my surgery. I was about to embark on a journey that would pave the way for my surgery and a complete lifestyle change that would affect the rest of my life.
